Kenma stood outside Kuroo's house, awkwardly shifting from foot to foot as he stared at the door. He wasn't sure why he felt so uneasy-he and Kuroo had spent plenty of time together recently, but somehow coming to his house felt... different.
He was invited by Kuroo after the premier. They had a whole argument about instant food and Kuroo insisted to make him "real food" at home.
After hesitating for a moment longer, he finally knocked. The door swung open almost immediately, and Kuroo stood there with his usual grin.
"Hey, you made it," Kuroo greeted, stepping aside. "Come on in."
Kenma shuffled inside, awkwardly. The house felt warm and homey, the faint scent of something cooking in the air. As Kenma took off his shoes, he heard a sudden shout.
"Kodzuken?!"
A blur of motion came charging down the hallway-Kuroo's younger brother. His eyes were wide with excitement as he skidded to a halt in front of Kenma, practically bouncing in place.
"You're Kodzuken! I can't believe it! I watch your streams all the time!" Hanzo exclaimed, his enthusiasm infectious.
Kenma blinked, a little taken aback by the kid's energy. "Uh, thanks."
"Kodzuken's here, in my house," Hanzo said, beaming. "Kuroo, why didn't you tell me?!"
Kuroo chuckled from the kitchen. "Didn't want you to pass out from excitement."
Kenma felt the tension in his shoulders ease a little as Hanzo dragged him toward the living room. "Can we play something together? Please?"
"Sure," Kenma said, unable to resist the kid's enthusiasm. He sat down next to Hanzo, who was already setting up the console, talking a mile a minute about all his favorite games and strategies.
As the game started, Kenma quickly realized just how much Kuroo's younger brother resembled him-especially in his confidence. Hanzo talked big, clearly sure of himself as he went head-to-head with Kenma. But after a few rounds, when Kenma easily wiped the floor with him, the kid's expression shifted to a comically familiar frown of frustration.
"You're just like Kuroo," Kenma muttered, amused. "Confident until you lose, then you make that same face."
"What face?" Hanzo huffed, crossing his arms, which only made Kenma smirk.
"That one."
Kuroo, who had been moving about the kitchen, called over, "What's this about me?"
"Nothing," Kenma replied, a faint smile still on his lips.
After a few more rounds, Hanzo's phone buzzed. "Oh! My friend's parents are coming to pick me up!" he announced. "I'm staying over at their house for the break."
"Are you sure you don't want to eat before you go?" Kuroo asked, emerging from the kitchen with a couple of dishes.
"Nah, they're ordering pizza!" Hanzo said, hopping up. "See ya, Kenma! And don't beat Kuroo too badly in games!"
Kenma waved, watching as Kuroo's younger brother dashed out the door, leaving the house much quieter than it had been moments ago.
Kuroo wandered back over to the living room, holding up a plate. "Dinner's ready. You hungry?"
"Yeah," Kenma said, standing up. "Thanks."
They settled at the dining table, the clinking of cutlery and quiet hum of the evening filling the space. After a while, Kenma glanced at Kuroo.
"Your brother's fun," he said. "He's like a mini version of you."
Kuroo raised an eyebrow. "Mini version?"
