Kanae's sleep broke when she felt her body against something soft and comfy. Her eyes adjusted to the light surrounding and she got a clear picture of where she was. Two people were dressing her wounds. She gazed around the room and saw Hawks standing in the corner, not to be a bother in dressing her wounds. She understood that she was currently in Hawks's agency.
Hawks kept carefully observing her as his sidekicks helped patch up her wounds. There was anger still lingering in his eyes. Once after Best Jeanist dropped them at the agency, he turned those villains to the police. Kanae kept looking at him. Yet again, he had come to her rescue. He had saved her not only physically but also mentally. Being lost and scared, she was afraid it was the end of her life.
After a few minutes, his sidekicks had successfully bandaged her and taken care of her injuries. Hawks stepped up to her bedside and spoke in a gentle tone. "You're all patched up now." He said. "How are you feeling?"
"I feel fine but tired." She replied, her tone sounding weak.
He nodded understandingly as he sat on the bed next to her. "You've been through a lot. It's normal to feel tired. You should rest up and get some sleep, alright?"
"Yes, I need to go home." She said, forgetting that the home she meant was nowhere there.
"Like hell you are." He spoke firmly, suddenly sounding a bit angry. "You're in no condition to go anywhere. You're staying here until you're fully healed, got it?" The current situation in Japan is not safe for her, at least not in such a condition.
"What? How can I? I can't stay here." She asked astonished by his sudden announcement.
"And why the hell not?" He asked firmly. "What's stopping you from staying here? You're definitely not going anywhere in your condition. At least here I can keep an eye on you." Hawks said since he was totally aware of her situation. She lives alone, and now when almost everyone is in shelters, it will be difficult for her. He knew she was being stubborn, refusing help.
"So, what do you think it's better for you to go back to wherever you were trying to go and end up getting yourself in even more danger?" He asked, trying to make her see reason.
Her gaze lingered on his face for a moment, but then she looked away. She was aware of the situation. She would be in danger if she leaves this place. But staying at his agency was definitely not a choice.
"I-" she stopped speaking. She couldn't say anything. If she goes back home, she will end up feeling negative and lost once again.
"For your own damn sake, you're staying here. I'm not taking no for an answer." He had no intentions of changing his mind.
"But there are people working here..." she said.
"That's not any of your concern." He told her firmly. "That's for me to worry about, not you. For now, focus on resting up and recovering from your injuries. I'll handle the rest of it."
"Hawks!" She said his name, trying to make him understand. She was not comfortable here. There were a bunch of people coming and going.
He heard her say his name, trying to get him to understand her concern.
"Kanae-chan, I know what you're worried about, but you should stop worrying so much." He said firmly, trying to reassure her. "You're my responsibility right now, and I'm not gonna allow anything to happen to you. And I can't have you going anywhere in the state you're in now. So just let me handle everything, alright?"
Kanae understood one thing, no matter what she tries, she cannot win an argument against this guy. Once he had made up his mind, there is nothing in the world that can stop him from doing it. But she also understood his concern.
