Of Wings and Love

Chapter 3

On the battlefield-:

Hawks collapsed as AFO stole his quirk letting him fall on the ground and then ran off to assist Shigaraki. Hawks laid there breathing heavily, on the urge of loosing consciousness. He tried to move, but the there was no energy in him. It was even difficult for him to keep his eyes open.

"It's enough now, I fought a lot." He said to himself finally closing his eyes. But the next second, a picture flashed in his mind. "Kanae-chan!" he saw her when he was about to lose his consciousness. He had promised himself to give his everything for making this society a safe place, for Kanae as well as for everyone else. He no longer wanted her to live a life always in danger. Her family had failed to protect her but he can't give up.

Holding back the katana lying near him, he tried to stand up. Twice's clones created by Toga Himiko were increasing and he need to fight them. He stood up taking the stance to attack.

In UA shelter area-:

One of the evacuation facilities travelling beneath U.A. and Shiketsu was disrupted due to All For One's spies, causing it to break apart. The civilians were rushing to flee to the surface. Kanae was there trying to flee along with others as they heard about Dabi's explosion going to happen. There have been constant updates coming in from the battle. She saw a lady collapsed on the floor so she rushed to help her.

"Are you okay?" she asked the lady holding her by her shoulder to get up.

Fortunately, the lady was conscious, her leg was hurt a bit but she had no other injuries.

"I am okay." She said as she took Kanae's support to stand up.

"Let me help you walk." Kanae supported her with her body to walk.

Later no, they came to know that Dabi's explosion was stopped by Shoto and Ingenium. Kanae and the lady sighed in relief knowing that they wouldn't have to flee now.

"Thank you so much, young lady." She thanked her. "What is your name?"

"My name is Ni-Kanae." She just told her first name as she had decided to give up on her family name.

"Kanae-san, such a nice name." the lady smiled.

"Please just call me Kanae." She smiled. "Can I know your name?" she asked the lady wanting to know her.

"My name is Takami Tomie." The lady told her.

Kanae was astonished by the same family name as Hawks. She wondered whether she is related to Hawks or not. She wanted to ask her but the current situation was not proper to ask about her relation with Hawks. Ever since she came to UA, there was no day when she didn't think about him. She prayed for his safety.

"Takami-san, nice to meet you. I don't know how long we will be here but please let me know whenever you need help."

"You are so sweet Kanae-chan. It's okay to call me by my first name." Tomie asked her.

"Okay, Tomie-san. Now, let's get the wound on your leg patch up." Kanae held her and took her to nearby tent allocated for first aid.

The nurse there was cleaning Tomie's wound when new update regarding the war came in.

"What? Number 2 Hero Hawks' quirk was stolen?" a man yelled in shock.

"Oyee, what the hell is happening? How are the heroes going to win if the Number 2 Hero himself was not able to do anything?" another man complained. There was chaos.

Kanae was astonished listening to the update. His red, fierce wings flashing in her mind when he had saved her. Losing a quirk is the biggest defeat for a Hero. "Hawks." She whispered his name, her eyes filling with tears. She felt like running to him at the very moment.
