"It's my first time here. I usually go home after school, but I figured I needed some extra study time today. As I don't want to be burden to my guardian anymore." Jungkook said the last part whispering.
The girl tilted her head in confusion "Sorry, what did you say?"
"Uh, nothing... nothing," Jungkook quickly replied, forcing a smile as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
" Oh ok." The girl tilted her head, sensing that he was hiding something but choosing not to press him. Instead, she changed the topic. "You're Jungkook, right?"
Jungkook's eyes widened. "How do you know me?" he asked, shocked. He didn't think he was popular enough to be known by other students, especially the top ones.
She chuckled softly. "You're quite famous, you know. You're in the taekwondo club, right? I've seen you perform for our school and at the annual day function, singing and dancing. You're good at everything!"
Jungkook chuckled nervously. "Not exactly. I'm not good at studying."
She shook her head. "You know, studying isn't everything. It's all about gaining knowledge. You don't need to compete with others. But by the way, just look at me— all I do is study, yet you don't even know my name, do you?"
Jungkook felt a small rush of embarrassment at her words. "Uh, no, I don't," He admitted, scratching the back of his head. "Sorry about that. What's your name?"
The girl smiled, unbothered. "It's Lisa."
Jungkook's eyes widened"You're an international student, right?" he asked, leaning forward a bit. "Where are you from?"
Lisa nodded, her smile brightening. "Yeah! I'm from Thailand. I moved here last year for my studies. It's been quite an adjustment, but I love it here."
"Bambam is your cousin?"
Lisa looked surprised. "Yeah! How did you know?"
Jungkook nodded "Well, we're friends. He mentioned that his cousin would be joining our school. Since you guys are in different sections for international students, I've never seen you around, but I've heard about you from Bambam. He comes to eat lunch with us sometimes.
" Oh I see." Lisa smiled after a brief pause and said, "So, that means we can be friends, right?"
Jungkook nodded with a smile. "Of course."
With that, they both again engaged in their studies.
As the silence grew, Jungkook felt many emotions inside. He tried to concentrate on his book, but his thoughts kept returning.
He thought about how much his elder brothers had done for him. They took me in, gave me everything I needed, And what did I do in return? I kept causing trouble, hurting them, wasting their money and time.
Jungkook's grip on his pen tightened as guilt flooded him. He thought had been selfish, always taking advantage of their love and never truly appreciating the sacrifices they made for him.
They gave me everything, and I acted like it was nothing. I was just an orphan and they adopted me but what I did ?? Instead of being grateful, I am hurting them .... I'm just a burden !
I am not even their real brother and they did so much for me ! So now it's my turn ! I have to stop being a burden and will take responsibility and pay them back for all they had done for me
He glanced over at Lisa, who caught him looking and smiled. "You okay?"
Jungkook nodded, his resolve hardening. "Yeah," He whispered.
