Chizuru smiled with relief and accomplishment as the projectile soared into the skies, releasing a radiant mist that cured everyone who had been exposed to the hallucinogenic drug.
Kevin stood motionless for a moment—then fury surged through him. His plan to destroy Toronto from within had failed. Rage twisted his face as he charged toward Chizuru, his armored footsteps pounding across the rooftop.
Chizuru froze in fear. But before Kevin could reach her, the Dark Knight intercepted—charging forward and landing a hard punch against Kevin’s face, sending him staggering to the side. Rin followed up with a flurry of blows, forcing Kevin backward.
Kevin blocked the next strike with his forearm, countering with brutal punches to Rin’s torso and face. Rin blocked as best he could, but a final punch against his guard sent him flying backward, crashing onto the ground. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Kevin extended a blade from his wrist and rushed toward him.
“Rin!” Chizuru screamed.
Yuusuke, lying wounded nearby, saw what was happening. He gripped his sword tightly, forcing himself to his feet and sprinting forward.
Rin pushed himself up just as the Hallucinator leaped, blade aimed straight for his chest. But before the strike could land, Yuusuke threw himself between them. The blade pierced through his upper torso, driving deep.
Rin froze—his eyes wide with shock.
Yuusuke looked weakly over his shoulder, meeting his brother’s gaze. Kevin lifted him higher on the blade as Yuusuke groaned in agony, his sword slipping from his grasp.
“Yuusuke!!!” Rin shouted as Kevin hurled his brother aside. Yuusuke hit the ground hard, blood pooling beneath him.
“Now it’s your turn,” Kevin growled, glaring at Rin.
Rin’s eyes flicked toward Yuusuke’s fallen sword. As Kevin lunged again, Rin grabbed the blade, deflecting the incoming strike. In one swift motion, he drove the sword straight into the glowing power source of Kevin’s upper torso—piercing through both the circuitry and his body.
Kevin gasped, blood seeping past his lips. Despite the fatal wound, he smirked bitterly as Rin twisted the blade deeper. The Fusion Core in Kevin’s armor flared bright white, growing unstable.
Rin raised his arm to shield himself—then the core detonated.
A massive explosion tore through the rooftop, hurling both of them across the debris. The structure cracked and shuddered under the blast. When the smoke cleared, Kevin Wei was gone—his armor shattered, his body destroyed by the Fusion Reactor’s chain reaction.
Rin lay motionless among the ruins.
“Rin!” Chizuru cried, running toward him. She knelt by his side, shaking his arm. Her voice broke as she called his name again and again.
Rin’s eyes slowly opened, his voice faint. “Chizuru…”
“Rin!” she said, relief flooding her face as she threw her arms around him.
He groaned softly, sitting up with her help. “Is it… over?”
“Kevin’s gone,” she said quietly. “And everyone is cured now.”
Rin didn’t respond. His gaze drifted to the side—where Yuusuke lay still.
“Yuusuke…” he whispered. Struggling to his feet, he leaned on Chizuru as they limped toward his brother.
Yuusuke was still alive, barely. His breaths were shallow, but he managed a faint smirk as Rin knelt beside him.
“You’ll… finally kill me now, little brother?” Yuusuke said weakly.
“No…” Rin shook his head. “Why? Why would you risk your life for me?”
“As I told you before…” Yuusuke smiled faintly. “No one kills you but me.”
Rin remained silent, his throat tightening.
“I had high hopes for you, Rin,” Yuusuke continued softly. “Toronto needs you.”
With trembling hands, Yuusuke reached for the damaged mask of the Dark Knight beside him, holding it out. Rin slowly took it, staring at it in silence before looking back at his brother.
“You’re going to make a lot of enemies,” Yuusuke said between ragged breaths. “People will get hurt… but promise me something.”
Rin leaned closer.
“Don’t—don’t you ever give up,” Yuusuke whispered. “No matter how hard it gets. Continue being the Dark Knight. You are someone I failed to become. I was the shadow… but you can be the light this city needs.”
“…What?” Rin asked quietly, confusion and emotion swirling in his voice.
“Maybe you’ll understand one day,” Yuusuke said, his strength fading. “Just… don’t follow my path. Promise me that.”
Rin nodded slowly. “Yeah…”
Yuusuke smiled faintly. “That’s my little brother…”
His breathing slowed. Then—silence.
Yuusuke’s eyes remained open, his final expression calm. Rin lowered his head and he clenched his fists tightly.
The three of them—Rin, Yuusuke, and Chizuru—remained there as the rain poured down across the city, washing away the chaos that had consumed it.
