Heartbeat - Part 15

13 years later

Justin's POV:

13 years...it's been 13 years since Adelaide passed away and it had been really hard for me especially being a single dad to our son Isaiah. It wasn't easy for a couple of weeks but i tried my best to raise him and protect him just like what I promised Adelaide. I'm 31 years old now and Isaiah is 13 years old, he has the personality of her and he's a happy kid and I'm grateful that I have something special to that was part from Adelaide.

Justin: * cooking dinner *
Isaiah: * walks in * DAD I'M HOME!!!
Justin: IN THE KITCHEN ISAIAH!!!
Isaiah: hey dad what are you making
Justin: Curried Chicken with oven-baked vegetables
Isaiah: nice sounds good
Justin: thanks to your Aunt Hailey, she taught me how to cook ever since you were little
Isaiah: yeah I remember cause you and Uncle Shawn almost burned down the house after trying to cook pizza
Justin: * chuckles *

Hailey and Shawn has been helping me taking care of Isaiah and the only ones we have contact with for 13 years. Ever since Adelaide died, her family just stopped talking to me or seeing Isaiah cause he reminded them of her so they decided to cut us off. At least we have Hailey and Shawn but I just wished they didn't have to do that stunt.

Few minutes later

Justin & Isaiah: * eating dinner *
Isaiah: dad can I talk to you about something
Justin: yeah of course anything
Isaiah: well there's this girl at my school and I think there's something wrong with her
Justin: what do you mean
Isaiah: she's always sad and I tried to talk to her friends but they wouldn't tell me anything
Justin: * remembers going through the same thing with Adelaide * huh
Isaiah: dad are you okay
Justin: yeah it's just uhh I know what you're talking about
Isaiah: what are you talking about
Justin: * sighs * Isaiah did I ever tell you about how I met your mother
Isaiah: no
Justin: okay where did you meet this girl
Isaiah: I was walking around the hallways when I heard someone singing in the music room so I went to see who it was and I saw her

Oh boy...the time has come...looks like I have to tell him about me and Adelaide's story.

Justin: okay so I was gonna wait to tell you once you were old enough but I guess it's time
Isaiah: what are you talking about, dad
Justin: when I was 18 years old...I was wandering around the high school hallways cause me and your grandma moved from Canada to Los Angeles, then all of sudden I heard the most beautiful voice coming from the music room and that's when I saw your mom for the first time
Isaiah: wait what
Justin: yeah...I met your mom on the exact same way you met this girl
Isaiah: what was she like
Justin: * smile's * oh man where do I start...she was beautiful Isaiah, funny, outgoing and the most kindest person I've ever met
Isaiah: sounds like she was very important to you dad
Justin: yeah she was buddy, your mom was the best thing that's ever happened to me but there was something wrong with her that I was trying to figure out until she finally told me when I sat with her at lunch
Isaiah: what did she tell you
Justin: your mother told me that she had a heart defect, turns out that her family and friends knew about it but kept the truth from her so after she was released from the hospital, your mom stayed with her grandmother for a while
Isaiah: * shocked * mom had a heart defect
Justin: yeah she did and I was shocked about it that I asked her if she's going to die and she told me that she's not going to die as long as she takes her medicine, so me and your mom decided to become friends and started hanging out a lot but she was worried about her best friend cause she wasn't in school for a while until we found out that her friend had leukemia and died a few weeks later
Isaiah: was she sad about it, dad
Justin: she was heartbroken Isaiah even though her best friend didn't tell her about the heart defect, she was devastated
Isaiah: so how did you and mom got together
Justin: it was a month after your mom's friend died and I was in her room when i asked her out on a date and she said yes, we went out and had our first kiss then asked her to be my girlfriend...it was the best day of my life
Isaiah: what happened to her
Justin: we were at the beach when all of the sudden your mother felt dizzy, she told that she was okay but only a few minutes later she fainted...I tried to find her pulse or heartbeat but there was no pulse or heartbeat
Isaiah: * eyes widened *
Justin: we were waiting for the doctors so that we can know why she fainted and then the doctor came in and told us the unexpected
Isaiah: what did he tell you

This is harder than I thought it would be but I had to tell him, I can't break the promise that I made to Adelaide.

Justin: he told us that the pills that she was taking weren't working anymore, her heart was too weak for surgery and was getting weaker every day but said to let her live the longest life as she possibly could but her heart will give up...forever
Isaiah: does that mean—
Justin: * nods * yeah...your mom was dying
Isaiah: oh my god
Justin: I was there for her Isaiah even though this was going on I was always there for her no matter what, then a month later it was her birthday and I asked her a very important question...I asked her to marry and she said yes then we got married few weeks later, then three months later we found out that we were having you and 9 months and a week later you were born
Isaiah: dad...tell me the day that she died
Justin: * breathes shakily * your mom was setting up table and I came down after putting you in the crib...I was about to grab some stuff to put on the table when all of the sudden your mom felt dizzy, panicking and asked where I was and she fainted...that was when i knew that the time had come
Isaiah: * gets tears in his eyes *
Justin: I stayed by her side the entire time at the hospital and everyone saying goodbye to her cause they couldn't watch her die but i couldn't leave her but your Aunt Hailey decided to bring you to the hospital so that your mom could hold you and spend time with you for the last time then your Aunt Hailey took you home, me and your mom were talking and then she made me promise to protect you no matter what and tell you how much she loved you and then she was gone...forever
Isaiah: * tears rolling down *
Justin: * voice quivering * I loved your mother very much Isaiah, so you have to be there for that girl just like how I was there for your mother
Isaiah: * nods and sniffs * I will, dad
Justin: * smile's weakly * good boy
