V I H A A N

YEAR 2021 (Three years back)

What are you saying?” She asked, confused, like she doesn't know anything.

I leaned back against my desk and crossed my arms. “Don't play dumb, Ms. Deshmukh,” I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “You lost a very important project file, and I'm guessing your brother is very eager to get it back.”

I studied her expression, looking for any hint of guilt or admission of guilt. She looked genuinely confused, which puzzled me more. Was she really that ignorant of her brother's doings?

No. No. No.

I decided to test her, to see if she was as innocent as she appeared. “Tell me, Ms. Deshmukh,” I said, my voice dripping with false sweetness. “What was the file about?”

I watched her carefully, noting the way her eyes darted around the room and the way she bit her lip nervously. She looked genuinely confused, and it was becoming harder and harder for me to believe that she wasn't aware of her brother's motives.

I decided to change tactics. I wanted to see her reaction to a more direct accusation. “Did you happen to...lose it on purpose?” I asked, my eyes locking onto hers.

I watched her face closely, waiting for a flicker of guilt or an admission of guilt. But instead, I saw only confusion and a hint of surprise. She wasn't reacting the way I had expected her to, and it was beginning to make me question my own assumptions.

I shook my head slightly, trying to clear my mind. I couldn't afford to be distracted by her innocence or her beauty. I was a businessman, and I had a rival to defeat.

Aarohi took a deep breath, trying to regain her composure. Her voice was shaky as she spoke. “I didn't lose the file on purpose,” she said, her eyes meeting mine defiantly. “I swear I didn't.”

I studied her intently, trying to read her expression and body language. I wanted to believe her, but my years of experience in the business world had taught me to be suspicious of everyone.

And here she is the sister of my business rival. I can't trust anyone.

“Then how do you explain its disappearance?” I asked, my tone firm and unyielding. “The file was in your hands, and now it's gone. Surely you can see how suspicious it looks, Ms. Deshmukh.”
