The cafe was unusually quiet that afternoon, the soft hum of conversation barely breaking through the tense silence in Reverie's mind. She sat at a corner table, her fingers tapping nervously on the surface. Her breath hitched every time the café door opened, anticipation gnawing at her chest.
Danielle arrived first, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on Reverie. With a small smile, she waved and made her way over. Danielle slid into the seat next to Reverie, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"You okay, Erie?" Danielle asked softly, her voice tinged with concern.
Reverie forced a weak smile, but her eyes betrayed her unease. "I'm just... scared, Dani."
Before Danielle could respond, the door chimed again. Noah and Theodore walked in together, laughing about something, but their smiles faded when they saw Reverie's pale face. Noah's eyes immediately filled with concern.
"Erie, what's wrong? Is it about Aries?" Noah asked, sliding into the seat across from her. His voice was gentle, but there was an urgency in his gaze.
Theodore followed, sitting beside Noah, his expression quickly growing serious as he took in the atmosphere. "You look like you've seen a ghost," he muttered.
Reverie swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. This was it. She had to tell them. She couldn't keep this hidden any longer.
"I have to tell you guys something," Reverie began, her voice shaky. "It's about Kazu."
Noah's face tightened at the mention of Kazu's name, and Theodore immediately leaned in, his brows furrowing in confusion. "Kazu? What about him?"
Reverie took a deep breath, her fingers twisting together nervously. "Back in Japan... when I was living alone after my mom passed away... Kazu was different. He wasn't just a normal friend. He was obsessed with me."
Danielle's hand gently squeezed Reverie's shoulder in silent support as Noah and Theodore listened in shock.
"He followed me everywhere," Reverie continued, her voice trembling. "He would watch me, send me messages all the time. One day, when I was walking home from school... he sent me a picture of myself, taken from behind, while I was walking. It was him, Noah. He was following me."
Noah's eyes darkened with anger, his fists clenching on the table. "What the hell? Why didn't you tell us sooner, Reverie?"
Reverie's eyes dropped to the table, shame washing over her. "I thought it was over when I moved here. But now... he's here too. And he's pretending like he's changed, like everything's fine. But I know he hasn't."
Theodore leaned back in his chair, his expression hardening. "This guy sounds dangerous. Why haven't you told anyone else?"
Reverie's voice cracked. "I thought I could handle it. But he's manipulating me, trying to make me believe that he's different. He's... still obsessed, Theo. He said if I don't stay close to him, he'll hurt the people I love. He'll hurt you. Danielle. Noah."
Noah's eyes flickered with something deeper. Pain, fear, and a fierce protectiveness that surged to the surface. Without saying a word, he stood up from his seat and walked around the table. His movements were swift, but gentle, as he knelt beside her, pulling Reverie into a warm embrace.
Reverie froze at first, but Noah's arms around her were steady, comforting. His hand moved to the back of her head, gently stroking her hair as he whispered, "I'm here, Erie. You're safe with me."
Tears pricked at her eyes, and Reverie let herself lean into Noah's chest, her body trembling slightly. She hadn't realized how much she needed this. The simple comfort of knowing someone cared, that she wasn't alone.
Danielle looked at Theodore, who gave her a nod, both understanding the gravity of the moment. They shared a silent agreement to let Noah comfort Reverie as best he could.
"Listen to me," Noah whispered, pulling back just enough to look into her eyes. "You're not going back to that house tonight. You'll come with me, okay? We can all stay together. You don't have to face this alone."
Reverie blinked through her tears, a wave of relief washing over her, though the fear still gnawed at her heart. "I can't... I don't want to cause any trouble..."
"No trouble at all," Theodore chimed in, giving her a reassuring smile. "We'll all crash at Noah's. We've got your back, Erie. Always."
Danielle nodded in agreement. "It's not safe for you to be alone, Erie. And we won't let Kazu anywhere near you."
Reverie bit her lip, her emotions overwhelming her. For so long, she had carried this weight on her own. But now, surrounded by her friends, she felt lighter, even if only a little.
Noah's hand gently rested on top of hers, his thumb brushing across her knuckles. "I know you're scared," he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "But I've loved you since the first day I met you. And I'm not going to let anything happen to you. Not while I'm here."
Reverie's breath caught in her throat. Noah's words hung in the air, their meaning heavy and undeniable. She glanced up at him, her eyes searching his, and for the first time, she felt truly seen.
Before she could respond, Noah smiled gently. "Don't worry about that right now. Just know that you're safe with us."
Reverie nodded, the knot in her chest loosening slightly as she clutched his hand. "Thank you, Noah... all of you."
Noah stood, pulling her up with him, keeping his arm securely around her shoulders. "Come on. Let's get out of here."
As they made their way out of the cafe, Reverie couldn't shake the lingering fear that still clung to her. But with Noah's arm around her, Danielle's supportive smile, and Theodore's quiet strength, she knew she didn't have to face Kazu alone. Not anymore.
