Reverie quickly exited the classroom, her breath shallow as she sped down the hallway, trying to put as much distance as possible between herself and Kazu. The crowded corridor felt like a blur as she weaved through students, her mind racing. She had come to Korea for a fresh start, a place where she could be free from the ghosts of her past, and yet here he was, bringing with him the darkness she had fought so hard to escape.
How is this even possible? she thought, clutching her books tighter to her chest. Her pulse was still erratic, and every step she took felt like she was running from a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from.
"Erie, wait up!" Danielle’s voice called from behind her.
Reverie slowed her pace but didn’t turn around until they reached the courtyard outside. The fresh air did little to calm her nerves, and she could feel Danielle’s concerned eyes on her back.
"Are you going to tell me what’s going on?" Danielle asked, crossing her arms as she stopped beside her. "You’ve been acting weird since that guy showed up."
Reverie hesitated, looking around to make sure no one was listening. Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Kazu... he’s not just some random transfer student. He’s dangerous."
Danielle blinked, surprised by her friend's serious tone. "Dangerous? He doesn’t look like-"
"Trust me," Reverie interrupted, her voice strained. "You don’t know him like I do. Back in Japan, he..." She trailed off, her eyes darting toward the ground as old memories flooded back.
Danielle softened, her curiosity now mingled with concern. "What happened?"
Reverie swallowed hard, still unsure how much she should reveal. "Kazu... he was obsessed with me. It wasn’t just normal jealousy or interest. He would follow me everywhere, leave notes, gifts, even break into my house just to be near me." Her voice trembled, and she took a deep breath. "At first, I thought it was just a phase, but he never stopped. He would always watch me from a distance, and I never felt safe. That’s why I left Japan."
Danielle’s face turned pale. "That’s... that’s insane. Did you report him?"
"I tried," Reverie said, shaking her head. "But he was careful. No one believed me because there was never any solid proof. He always made it look innocent -like it was all in my head." She clenched her fists, feeling a surge of frustration. "But it wasn’t. I know what he’s capable of."
The wind rustled through the trees in the courtyard, making the silence between them feel even heavier.
"So, what do we do now?" Danielle finally asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I don’t know," Reverie admitted, her heart sinking. "I don’t know why he’s here or what he wants, but I can’t let him ruin my life again."
Just then, a shadow appeared in the corner of her vision. She turned her head slightly and froze - Kazu was standing at the entrance of the courtyard, leaning casually against the gate. His one good eye was locked onto her, a faint smirk playing on his lips.
"Hey, Bellarose!" His voice carried through the air, calm and unsettling.
Danielle immediately tensed, her hand reaching for Reverie’s arm protectively. "Come on, let’s go," she whispered, tugging at her friend.
But Reverie couldn’t move. Her feet felt glued to the ground, her body numb with fear. It was like being trapped in a bad dream, one where the past you thought you’d escaped comes back to pull you under.
Kazu’s footsteps echoed as he approached, his presence growing more suffocating with every step. "It’s nice to see you again," he said, his smile widening, but there was something off in his expression -something dark and twisted beneath the surface.
Reverie took a step back, her voice barely audible. "What do you want, Kazu?"
He tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing in mock confusion. "Want? Oh, come now, Bellarose. Is that how you greet an old friend?"
"I’m not your friend," she whispered harshly, her fingers trembling.
Kazu’s smile faltered, his expression darkening. "No, I suppose not," he said quietly. "But that doesn’t change the fact that we have... unfinished business."
Reverie’s heart dropped. Unfinished business? The words echoed ominously in her mind. She had no idea what Kazu meant, but one thing was clear -whatever he was planning, it wasn’t good.
Before she could respond, Kazu turned away, walking back toward the building without another word, leaving a chilling silence in his wake.
Danielle exhaled, her grip on Reverie’s arm tightening. "What the hell was that?"
Reverie didn’t answer. She couldn’t. All she could think about was the storm that was coming -a storm she had no idea how to stop.
"He’s... dangerous," Reverie finally said, her voice low. "And I don’t know why he’s here. But I do know one thing. I can’t let him control my life again."
Danielle’s eyes widened slightly at the word ‘control,’ but she didn’t press further. Her eyebrows furrowed, and her face looked confused.
"Okay, but you’re not dealing with this alone. If he tries anything, we’ll handle it together, alright?"
Reverie nodded, though a part of her wasn’t convinced. Handling Kazu was never that simple.

Later that day, as Reverie walked through the quiet hallways toward the library, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Kazu was nearby. Every shadow, every distant sound made her tense up, as though he was lurking just out of sight, waiting.
When she finally reached the library, she sighed in relief, grateful for the sanctuary it offered. She found a quiet corner by the window and sat down, her mind still spinning from Kazu’s sudden reappearance. She opened her notebook, trying to distract herself by focusing on her homework, but her thoughts kept wandering back to the boy with the scarred face and the cold, gray eye.
Just as she began to settle into the silence, her phone buzzed. She glanced down and felt her heart skip a beat.
A message.
From an unknown number.
Her fingers trembled as she unlocked the phone and opened the message.
"You didn’t think you could escape me forever, did you?"
Reverie’s stomach twisted. Her eyes darted around the empty library, but there was no sign of Kazu. Yet somehow, he had already found her number, already made his move.
She gripped the phone tightly, her chest heaving with a mix of fear and frustration. This wasn’t over. Not by a long shot.
