Chapter twelve

Feeling much better after a day of rest, Amelia finally managed to convince Fred to get some sleep, playfully insisting until he relented. "Fine, fine," he sighed, clearly worn out but smiling as he crawled into his own bed. "But only because you've finally recovered enough to boss me around again," he teased, giving her a wink before closing his eyes.

Once Fred was asleep, Amelia made her way quietly down the stairs. The house was still, with everyone else occupied outside or in other rooms, giving her a quiet moment to herself. She padded softly into the kitchen, filling the kettle and setting it to boil. As she waited for her tea, she looked out the window at the garden, the late morning light casting a warm glow over the familiar Burrow landscape. The kettle whistled, snapping her out of her thoughts. She poured herself a steaming mug of chamomile tea, inhaling the calming aroma before settling at the kitchen table. Moments later, Mrs. Weasley walked in, a warm smile on her face. "Amelia! Lovely to see you up and about, dear. Feeling better, I hope?" Amelia nodded, smiling gratefully. "Yes, much better, thank you, Mrs. Weasley. And thank you for all the tea yesterday."

Mrs. Weasley waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, don't mention it, dear. Just happy to see you well. I thought for sure Fred was going to turn himself into a patient too, worrying over you like that." Amelia chuckled, looking down at her tea with a fond smile. "He barely let himself sleep," she admitted, "but he was a big help." Mrs. Weasley sighed; her tone fond. "Yes, he does tend to worry about those he cares for, sometimes more than himself. Just like his father, that one." She gave Amelia a knowing look before bustling over to grab some freshly baked bread. "Well, dear, you'll have to make sure he rests today—he's been as stubborn as a mule watching over you." Amelia laughed softly, a warm feeling spreading in her chest. "I will, don't worry. I don't think he stands a chance against me today."

Just then, George popped his head around the corner, his usual mischievous grin lighting up his face. "Morning, Amelia. Thought I heard someone down here," he said, making his way into the kitchen. "Good to see you up and not stuck in bed under Fred's watchful eye." Amelia rolled her eyes, smiling. "Tell me about it. I finally had to practically push him to sleep this morning."

"Well done," George teased, grabbing a piece of bread. "Fred's a good brother, but he's a stubborn git when he wants to be. You've probably got him wrapped around your finger now." Amelia's cheeks warmed a bit, but she couldn't help but smile. "Maybe just a little," she admitted. George gave her a playful nudge. "Just make sure to remind him he owes me for taking over the pranking duties yesterday. I even took one for the team and let him off easy." Mrs. Weasley clucked her tongue. "I knew I should've kept an eye on you boys."

George held up his hands, feigning innocence. "All in good fun, Mum. Besides, I'm pretty sure Amelia gave us a pass with that reaction yesterday." He grinned, and Amelia laughed, enjoying the easy banter with George and Mrs. Weasley.

After finishing her tea, Amelia thanked them both, deciding to take a quick walk in the garden. She felt grateful for the fresh air and the familiar peace of the Burrow, the morning filled with warmth and a sense of home. The past few days had been a whirlwind, but now, with Fred resting upstairs, she had a chance to breathe and reflect, a smile lingering as she thought of him resting peacefully just above.

After her peaceful walk in the garden, Amelia decided it was the perfect opportunity to catch up with Hermione and Ginny and give Fred the rest he desperately needed. She wandered through the Burrow, eventually finding the girls in Ginny's room, deep in conversation, giggling over something sprawled across the bed between them.

"Mind if I join the party?" Amelia asked, smiling as she leaned in the doorway. "Amelia!" Ginny called out excitedly, patting the bed next to her. "Come sit! Hermione and I were just talking about... well, all sorts of things, really. We missed you while you were stuck in bed!" Amelia plopped down on the bed beside them, crossing her legs. "I missed you two, too. But Fred was definitely dedicated to keeping me company," she added with a grin.
