Chapter forty two
For the next few days, Mrs. and Mr. Weasley busied themselves with the preparations for Fred and Amelia's engagement party, each detail meticulously planned to ensure a celebration that would be memorable for everyone involved. The couple was thrilled with the news, and the Weasley home buzzed with a renewed sense of joy and excitement. Amelia felt completely embraced by the family, a feeling that brought warmth to her heart.
Amelia sat cross-legged on the floor of Ginny's room, surrounded by her closest friends. The walls were adorned with posters of famous Quidditch players, and the room held a cozy atmosphere filled with laughter and lively chatter. Ginny flipped through a magazine while Hermione meticulously took notes on wedding ideas for Amelia, ever the planner.
"I still can't believe you're engaged!" Ginny said, looking up from her magazine with wide eyes. "It all happened so fast! Just a few days ago, you were playing Quidditch, and now you're going to marry Fred!"
Amelia couldn't help but smile, the excitement bubbling inside her. "I know, right? One minute we were playing, and the next—I thought he was seriously injured! And suddenly he's on one knee in the middle of a Quidditch match. It's like something out of a fairytale!" Hermione, ever practical, added, "Well, have you thought about how you want the party to be? We should start planning! I mean, it's a big deal, and it's going to be a beautiful celebration." Amelia shook her head, a mixture of giddiness and disbelief in her eyes. "Honestly, I'm just trying to wrap my head around the fact that I'm engaged! Yeah, sure I've thought about my wedding or party before but I'm so over the moon right now. It feels surreal!"
Ginny leaned forward, her expression turning serious. "Well, have you thought about what comes after the party? Are you two ready for that? I mean, really ready?" Amelia nodded slowly, contemplating the future. "I love him, Ginny. More than anything. But yes, this whole next step feels huge. I want to be sure of everything before we jump into planning a wedding." Hermione smiled reassuringly. "You have time. Plus, with Fred and the Weasleys supporting you, it'll be a beautiful journey. And we'll help you every step of the way."
The girls spent the next few hours brainstorming ideas for the engagement party. They discussed themes, colors, and the kind of atmosphere Amelia envisioned writing everything down. Ginny was all for a lively celebration with games and dancing, while Hermione suggested some classic touches, like flowers and soft lighting. "What if we had a mix?" Amelia suggested, her enthusiasm growing. "A little bit of everything! We can have games, but also some beautiful decorations that represent us."
"That's perfect!" Ginny exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "We can make it a night to remember! And we should definitely include some of your favorite things—maybe a special cake or something!"
As the girls continued to chat and plan, Amelia felt a wave of happiness wash over her. The initial shock of the engagement was fading, replaced by the warmth of friendship and love. It was a comforting reminder that she wasn't just marrying Fred; she was joining a family that cared deeply for her.
As night fell, Amelia reluctantly left Ginny's room, knowing the Weasley parents would be hard at work in the kitchen, preparing for the party. She wandered downstairs, drawn by the aroma of Mrs. Wesley's famous stew. In the cozy kitchen, Mrs. Weasley was bustling about, her hands deftly chopping vegetables while Mr. Weasley sorted through a stack of invitations. When she caught sight of Amelia, her face lit up.
"Oh, Amelia! Come help me with this!" Mrs. Weasley said, handing her a bowl. "I could use an extra pair of hands, and besides, we need to make sure we have plenty of food for the party!" Amelia smiled and jumped right in, grateful to be part of the family preparations. As they worked together, Mrs. Weasley chattered about her plans for the party, her enthusiasm infectious.
"It's going to be lovely, dear. I want everyone to see how happy you and Fred are," she said, her eyes twinkling with joy. "You're like a daughter to me now, you know?" Amelia felt her heart swell. The warmth and acceptance she received from the Weasley family made everything feel right. As she chopped and stirred, she couldn't help but think about the beautiful life that lay ahead of her with Fred—filled with laughter, love, and the chaos of family. Before she headed to sleep, Amelia handed Mrs. Weasley everything Ginny wrote down, thanking her from the bottom of her heart.
As Amelia stood by the door to Fred and George's room, she could hear the familiar sounds of their playful banter. Leaning against the door frame, she smiled as she took in the sight of her fiancé and his twin brother bickering animatedly. Fred was perched on his bed, a wide grin on his face, while George stood on the other side, arms crossed and mock-serious. "I'm telling you, George, we need to enchant the beds to make a double!" Fred exclaimed, gesturing dramatically toward his bed. "Just think about it—this way, Amelia and I can have a proper space together!"
George rolled his eyes, his expression a mix of amusement and disbelief. "Right, because nothing says romance like a magically adjustable bed. What happens when one of you rolls over and ends up in the other's space? You'll end up fighting over blankets!"
Amelia couldn't help but laugh softly at their antics. Their room was a delightful mess—clothes strewn haphazardly, sketches for new products cluttering the floor, and the air thick with the scent of magic and mischief. She pushed the door open a little wider, curious to see where this conversation was headed.
"Come on, George! Think of the benefits!" Fred pressed on; his enthusiasm palpable. "If we make it into a double bed, we can still have the privacy charm, but with the added bonus of being close together! And we won't have to worry about Amelia having to trek across the room when she wants to cuddle." With a chuckle, Amelia stepped inside, leaning against the door. "You know, it's not the bed that's the problem, Fred. It's just you two and your competitive spirit!"
"Exactly! There's a chance one of you could end up flung out of the bed entirely!" George added, smirking as he threw his hands up in mock exasperation. "And if that happens, I'm blaming you, Fred!" Fred crossed his arms, the corners of his mouth twitching into a smile. "Well, let's be honest: who wouldn't want to be thrown out of bed after a night of passionate snuggling?"
Amelia rolled her eyes playfully, stepping further into the room. "Really, you two are ridiculous. But I have to admit, I wouldn't mind sharing a bed with you, Fred." Fred's expression softened, and he moved closer to her, wrapping an arm around her waist. "See? It's a perfect idea! Plus, I have a charm that'll keep the bed from merging until we're ready for it! That way, no accidental blanket-stealing during the night." Amelia couldn't help but smile, her heart fluttering at the thought of sharing a space with him, especially in a bed they had conjured together. "Alright, but you have to promise not to snore!" George chimed in with a laugh, "Good luck with that! I've heard Fred can rattle the windows!"
"Oh, hush!" Fred shot back with a playful glare at George. "I'm a perfect gentleman when it comes to sleeping arrangements." He turned to Amelia with a wink. "You'll be safe with me, I promise."
As they continued to discuss the logistics of the double bed, Fred and George began casting spells to enchant their beds, making the furniture shimmer and glow with potential. The sight of them working together filled Amelia with warmth, and she felt excited about their shared future.
Fred leaned closer to her, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "So, if I magically enchant this bed just right, what else would you like to add? Maybe a little charm that brings breakfast to bed?"
"Or one that keeps it tidy!" Amelia suggested, laughing at the thought. "We can't have our room looking like this all the time!"
"Consider it done!" Fred declared, grinning broadly as he brandished his wand and began to cast various charms to make their idea come to life. As they continued their lively brainstorming session, Amelia felt a surge of happiness. In that room, amidst the chaos, she felt entirely at home, surrounded by the people she loved. It was moments like these that made her realize how perfect it was to be embarking on this new adventure with Fred by her side.
