Chapter forty
The morning sun streamed through the small windows of the Burrow, casting a warm golden light over everything it touched. As the first rays illuminated the cozy kitchen, Amelia was already awake, bubbling with excitement for Fred and George's birthday. She stretched her arms, yawning softly, and then hopped out of bed, feeling a surge of energy. Today was the day she'd help make their birthday unforgettable.
She quickly got dressed, her mind racing with ideas, and then tiptoed downstairs. The air was filled with the delightful aroma of breakfast, a mix of freshly baked pastries and the rich scent of bacon sizzling on the stove. Amelia grinned at the sight of the decorations she had quietly set up the night before: vibrant banners hung from the ceiling, colorful balloons were floating near the windows, and a table filled with treats awaited the twins. She had even managed to charm some enchanted confetti that would shower down on them as they entered. Feeling the thrill of anticipation, Amelia began setting the table, arranging plates and glasses while humming a cheerful tune. She was almost finished when she heard footsteps shuffling down the hallway. She turned to see Fred and George, still groggy from sleep, entering the kitchen. Their eyes widened as they took in the colorful scene before them.
"Surprise!" Amelia exclaimed, her voice bursting with enthusiasm as she clapped her hands together. Fred blinked, his expression shifting from sleepiness to sheer delight. "What's all this?" he asked, his mouth curling into a broad grin. George rubbed his eyes, still processing the sight. "You did all this for us?" he said, his voice thick with disbelief.
"Of course! It's your birthday!" Amelia replied, beaming at them. "Happy birthday, you two!" With that, she rushed over and enveloped them both in a warm embrace, her heart swelling with affection. The twins exchanged a surprised look but quickly returned her hugs, their laughter filling the kitchen. "Thanks, Amelia! This is amazing!" Fred said, pulling back to look at the decorations, his eyes twinkling with appreciation.
"It's not over yet," Amelia said with a wink, a playful smile spreading across her face. She took a deep breath, readying herself for the special moment she had planned. "But first, I have something else for you." Without hesitation, she leaned in and gave Fred a long, deep kiss, pouring all her affection into it. The world around them faded away as time stood still for a moment, their laughter and the cheerful chaos of the morning melting into the background.
When they finally broke apart, Fred's cheeks were slightly flushed, and he grinned, clearly taken by surprise. "Wow, I didn't expect that as a birthday present," he teased, a gleam of mischief dancing in his eyes. George pretended to gag, but the corner of his mouth twitched with amusement. "Get a room, you two! Save that for later!"
Amelia laughed, her heart racing with warmth. "Come on, you two! You have more to celebrate!" She motioned toward the table, where a delicious breakfast awaited them.
As the laughter and chatter filled the kitchen, Mr. Weasley's voice suddenly boomed from the hallway, calling the rest of the Weasley kids down for breakfast. "Oi! Everyone up and at 'em! Time for breakfast! Fred and George's birthday feast awaits!" From their rooms, the sound of hurried footsteps could be heard as Ginny, Ron, and Hermione made their way downstairs. Ginny was the first to round the corner, her hair still tousled from sleep, but her eyes sparkled with excitement as she took in the vibrant decorations that filled the kitchen.
"Wow! You really outdid yourself, Amelia!" she exclaimed, beaming at her friend. "This looks brilliant!" Ron trailed in behind her, yawning and rubbing his eyes, but his expression quickly shifted from sleepy confusion to delight as he noticed the spread. "What's all this?" he asked, moving closer to the table where the delicious breakfast laid out. "Dig in, everyone" Amelia shouted, gesturing grandly to the table. As Hermione entered, she surveyed the colorful scene, her expression a mix of admiration and surprise. "You decorated everything! This is lovely, Amelia!" she said, genuinely impressed.
