Chapter Five: Fince The Rat

We all rushed back to the palace when we heard the familiar voice of Fince speak through the door "I've been gathering intelligence we sorely lack seems your band of fools have gone missing safe to say you sent Vox Machina to their doom,"

Scanlan kicked the doors open with theatrical flair "Doom?! We don't know the meaning of that word!" his bravado echoed off the stone walls drawing startled glances from the council.

"Yes and as you all can clearly see we are very much alive," I added shooting a withering glare at Fince he flinched. The man had the nerve of a rat and I found no joy in his smugness.

"Sovereign hold onto your damn crown because we've discovered that the monster is none other than...a blue dragon!" Scanlan continued expecting applause or something, but the council merely deadpanned at the gnome "we know," they echoed in synch.

"Did you kill it?" Allura's voice cut through the tension her tone almost pleading.

Keyleth nervously added "I wouldn't say 'kill'-" but was interrupted when Pike said "were still working on it actually," causing Kreig to let out a laugh of astonishment "I can't believe you all made it out alive how did you survive?" he questioned.

"Trade secrets I am afraid Krieggy," Scanlan replied only for Percy to answer his question instead "we hid and it flew away simple as that."

Grog laughed "uh..what how did we do that again?" he asked causing me to pinch the bridge of my nose at the half giant's stupidity "because of the vines that Keyleth summoned as barrier," I replied making the giant let out an 'oh' of understanding.

"These blabbering fools are useless sire perhaps if we made an offering to the dragon gold in exchange for peace?"  Fince suggested his tone as insufferable as ever.

"Yes and while we're at it lets offer it a handshake along with a fucking pint of ale," came Vax's sarcastic quip causing me to let out a silent chuckle.

"A dragon cannot be bartered with. If it desires Emon's destruction it will not relent!" Vex exclaimed her fists clenched tightly as she stared daggers at Fince.

"I've never hunted a dragon, but my Hunter Ancestors did once upon a time passing their records in my village and from what I've learned no matter how much gold you offer it the creature will not deem it enough they have a constant unsatisfied lust for treasure and find joy in the annihilation they unleash," I added in my two coppers (A/N they don't use cents instead they use the term copper, silver, gold, and diamond for their currency).

Of course, Sovreign Uriel did not even listen to our words "even so I must try I cannot allow more cities and villages to burn General Krieg you may move your soldiers at dawn," he said glancing in Krieg's direction.

"But your highness-" Kima tried to say something but was cut off by Uriel "I've made my decision Lady Kima...this council is adjourned," he said in a stern tone.

I growled "you fool can you not see that you'll only be making a pointless effort!" I exclaimed as the guards began to man handle us out of the room.

"Hey, get your hands off of me I can leave by myself just fine," Pike said with indignation while Scanlan also struggled "your offer is at least still on the table if we somehow manage to kill it before anyone else right?!" he questioned but Uriel does not answer to our shouts.

-Outside the Palace-

"Well that didn't go as planned," Vax said crossing his arms together my teeth clenched in anger "worst of all that fool of a Sovereign is only accelerating the destruction of Emon by giving all their gold the Dragon has nothing to stop it from killing everything all at once!" I exclaimed.
