This is the story of Princesse Matilda Victoria Eleanor de Galles. The Eldest daughter of Princess Catherine and William of Wales. The futur queen of England.
Matilda couldn't stop glancing out the window. Today was the day her uncle Harry would introduce someone new—his girlfriend, Meghan. At five years old, Matilda didn't fully understand why it was such a big deal, but she could sense the tension in the air. Her parents, William and Catherine, had whispered conversations all morning, and even George was dressed neatly, which wasn't typical.
"Is she like you, Mama?" Matilda asked, turning to her mother.
Catherine gave her daughter a gentle smile. "Not quite, darling. Meghan comes from America, and she works as an actress. She's... different."
"Different how?" Matilda asked, curious but unable to shake off a funny feeling.
William leaned down. "She tells stories on television. Lots of people know her. But let's be polite and friendly, all right?" He gave Matilda's shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
When the door opened, in came Uncle Harry, his face bright, with Meghan beside him. Meghan had a big smile, and her voice was cheerful as she walked up to Matilda.
"Hello, Matilda! I've heard so much about you!" Meghan's eyes sparkled as she knelt down to be at Matilda's level. "Did you know I work in television?" she added, trying to make a connection.
"Like Tony Stark?" Matilda asked, blinking.
"Sort of, but with people instead of pigs," Meghan replied, laughing. She looked around at the family, noticing William watching with a guarded expression.
As the adults chatted, Matilda couldn't shake the feeling that something didn't fit. She noticed her dad watching her, as if he knew she'd noticed it too. When Meghan took Harry's arm, looking up at him with sparkling eyes, a knot formed in Matilda's stomach.
That night, Matilda sat with her father while Catherine put George and Charlotte to bed.
"So, what did you think of Meghan?" William asked.
"She's pretty," Matilda started, twisting her fingers, "but I don't know, Papa... she doesn't feel right for Uncle Harry." She looked up, hoping she hadn't said something wrong.
William's face softened. He pulled her close, brushing back her hair. "Thank you for telling me that, Matilda. You're very smart to notice things."
He gave her shoulder a squeeze. "Sometimes, we have feelings about people that are hard to explain. I felt that too." Matilda's words lingered with William, making him feel even more protective of Harry.
