As I materialized in Shibuya, the cool autumn air enveloped me, carrying the scent of fallen leaves. The streets were eerily deserted, the only sound the distant hum of Soccer's containment barriers. A massive, ethereal curtain shrouded the city.
Satoru waited for me, leaning against a lamppost, his eyes scanning the horizon. "Hey, Y/N," he said, his smile easygoing. "Glad you're here. This curtain's got everyone spooked." His gaze locked onto mine, serious for a moment. "Let's figure out what's going on and put an end to it."
As I approached the shimmering curtain, its ethereal surface pulsed with an otherworldly energy, casting an iridescent glow across the deserted streets of Shibuya. Satoru followed closely behind, his eyes fixed intently on the barrier, his expression relaxed and casual. "Ready to go in?" he asked, his voice low and smooth, betraying no hint of concern.
I reached out to touch the curtain, but as soon as my hand made contact, it recoiled, as if repelled by an invisible force. "Wait," I said, turning to Satoru, my voice tinged with surprise. "I can't come in." Satoru's expression changed from relaxed to concerned, his brow furrowing in consternation.
"Why not?" he asked, his eyes narrowing as he scrutinized my face. I showed him my hand, still tingling from the rejection. "I touched the curtain, and my hand was pushed back." Satoru's gaze locked onto mine, searching for answers.
"That's weird," he said, his voice thoughtful. "Soccer's people can go in and out, but civilians can't. And now, you can't either?" His eyes sparkled with curiosity, seeking to unravel the mystery.
"I think I understand," I said, my eyes fixed on the shimmering curtain. "Maybe it's designed to keep only humans inside. Soccer's people can come and go because they're curse users, but..." I hesitated, unsure how to explain.
Satoru's gaze locked onto mine, curious. "But what, Y/N?" he pressed, his voice encouraging.
"I'm not just human, Satoru," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm a hybrid – Werewolf and Vampire. And that's the problem." The words hung in the air, heavy with implication.
Satoru's expression turned puzzled. "How does that affect the curtain?" he asked, his brow furrowed.
"I'm...dead, yet alive," I explained, my voice laced with a hint of irony. "As a Vampire, I'm technically deceased, but my Werewolf side keeps me alive. The curtain might be confused, repelling me because it can't categorize me."
Satoru's eyes widened, comprehension dawning. "Or," he said, his voice low, "whoever created this curtain knows your past." My gaze snapped to his, a warning flashing in my eyes.
Fortunately, he didn't press the issue. Instead, he asked, "But Y/N, you haven't ...triggered your Vampire curse?" His voice was soft but inquiring.
I looked away, my heart racing. Satoru's eyes narrowed.
