I sat down in Talon's chair and ignored Charlie until he left the room. I curled myself into a ball and let the tears stream down my face. I just wanted him to come home. Weather that was in a month or in a year. I wanted him home. It was unfair, I was about to have our first child and he wouldn't be here!
9 MONTHS
I was so close our baby was going to be born any now, but yet the war was still going on. Charlie had stayed a distance away from me weather it was because of me or because he chose to I was unsure of. I had closed myself off from the world only dealing with matters that needed my attention.
A slight kick in my ribs jarred me from my thoughts. Gosh this baby was strong. I rubbed the spot soothingly hoping that he or she would stop the constant kicking and moving. The baby calmed down and the kicking stopped. I knew this baby was coming soon but I wasn't ready. Was anybody ever ready by the time their baby came?
Avery walked in she was walking slowly and she had a tired look in her eyes.
"Whats up?" I asked patting the spot next to me. Closing myself off from the world didn't include Avery.
"Stressed is all I just want him home you know!" Avery huffed loudly slumping into the seat next to me.
"I know what you mean, my baby is going to be born any day now and he or she won't know their father, I'm terrified!" I groaned, the baby had began to stir and what felt like a contraction came, pain racked my body and I growled through my teeth.
"How about the baby being born today," Avery said helping me off the couch and towards the hospital room set up in Talons house. She mind linked the pack doctor and laid me down on the delivery bed. The doctor arrived soon after, she prepped me for delivery and we waited.
Soon after my water broke and my baby was on its way. I let the pain take over my thoughts, I laid there and waited for it to be over. I pushed when I had to push and I didn't think. When the wailing of a beautiful baby girl reached my ears I cried, I was so happy to finally have her here, but the pain of not having Talon here filled my heart. The dull ache in the back of my mind was a constant reminder that he wasn't here.
I held my baby girl close to my chest and she settled she opened her eyes and stared at me with her father's baby brown eyes. She had darker skin and black hair. She looked like a mini Talon! Athena would be her name, she would be wise, and good at strategy, she would end battles before they even started, she would be the next ALPHA! I got Avery to take a picture of me and the Athena before asking to be alone. Athena closed her eyes and fell asleep her soothing breathing made me feel calm, calmer than I have felt since Talon left. I stood and placed her in a small cot in the corner. She made a quiet almost silent noise. Avery appeared in the doorway with a small white paper in her hand. She turned it around to show me the front. It was the picture of me and Athena that she had taken an hour prior. I took the photo and searched the room for a pen.
After a great deal of searching I found a pen and wrote Athena Zephlon on the back in my messy cursive.
"Could you get me some paper and an envelope please?" I asked staring at the picture, Avery left the room and I stared at my baby girl. She was perfect, she was everything I wanted in a daughter so far.
I wrote a letter to Talon explaining what happened in detail to Talon. I wrote, and wrote until Athena woke. Ending my letter there I walked over to Athena and plucked her from the cot, cradling her in my arms. I placed a bottle at her lips which she graciously took, sucking softly on the rubber nipple. I fed her and burped her before an awful stench reached my sensitive nose. Taking my time I changed her diaper before laying her down yet again. Athena closed her eyes and dozed off without a tear. I placed my letter and the photo in an envelope and writing Talon's name on the front. I gave it to a messenger who took my letter and ran into the woods with it.
TALON'S POV
I sat on the edge of my small cot thinking about my mate and my baby soon to be born.
"Alpha there is a messenger here from the pack," a loud voice spoke from outside of my tent. I stood upright and sprinted out of my tent. I made it to the messenger before he could stop and took a letter with my name on it. It was written in Zephyrin's messy cursive. I gently ripped it opened and a small white paper fell out. I plucked it out of the air as it fell, it turned over in my hand and I saw my Zeph holding a tiny little baby with a pink blanket wrapped around her. On the back it said Athena Zephlon. I pulled the letter out next and began reading a very detailed description on what happened. Our daughter was beautiful, she had my looks! I smiled and let a stray tear slid down my cheek, I missed it! I missed my first child being born. She looked so fierce! This war was going to end soon it had too! I needed to get back to my daughter and my mate.
"Warriors, I have amazing news!" I yelled running towards the campfire. I made it there and all the men looked at me with surprise, my face held a smile wider than it should have been considering where we were. "Zephyrin had a baby girl this morning, Athena Zephlon!" I spoke proudly. The men cheered loudly and rejoiced. They knew it was time to end this war.
I left the campfire and went into the strategy tent. I quickly started mapping out plans. I had to end this war even if it was temporarily. I planned until the wee hours of morning when the sun was rising. Many of the Warriors met me in the tent after breakfast and I showed them what I had come up with. The only problem with my plan was that we had no clue where the rogues were. They obviously knew what they were doing. The men decided to send out groups of men to see if they could find them. As soon as they spotted the rogues they would run back and report immediately.
We quickly made groups of men and sent them off in different directions. I entered my own group and we set off quickly. We sniffed and watched the ground for tracks but none were found.
'Alpha we got a sent and some tracks at the north west' a voice rang in my head. I quickly turned in that direction my group following. We sprinted towards the north west and met up with the others. We followed the tracks until we came to our own border where the rogues were waiting for us. They had been under our nose the whole time. I growled and the rest of our Warriors soon appeared out of the bushes. The Rogues seemed surprised of our few numbers for we had been taking out there men left and right.
I shifted and stood in front of my men.
"Who is incharge of you?" I asked my alpha anger seeping into my words. Many of their smaller wolves shivered before glaring at me. A larger wolf stepped out from the group of rogues and shifted into human form.
"I am, Cory Lymph," he gave me a lopsided smile and showed that he was missing most of his teeth and his lips were slightly deformed.
"What do you want from my pack Cory Lymph?" I growled lowly.
"Well it's simple we want to kill you and take over your land, but you have been doing a very good job of keeping us from doing that!" He explained "Oh and I heard you just had a daughter with your mate Zephyrin right?" He laughed
"That is correct but if you involve her in this I will rip your limbs from your body and feed them to you before I ripped your head from your body!" I whispered venom seeping from my words.
"To late..."
