I was on my way to my dorm from the administration block, luggage trailing behind me. I wasn't expecting to have a roommate considering I applied so late and had to pull a lot of strings to get accepted but I did. Apparently she's an international student as well named Kawachi Maya. I couldn't help but hope it was Xypher. But what are the odds? Maya is a pretty popular name and I didn't know her last name so I couldn't be sure it was her. Still, I could hope. After all she did say she was coming to Luxembourg too.
Hours later as I lay in bed the creaking of the door drew me from my mindless scrolling. I looked up, seeing a vaguely familiar face. "Hey stranger." She said with a playful smile. "Wait... Xypher?" "I don't who that is, my name's Maya." She said in a serious tone. Before I could even respond and apologise for my mistake, a grin broke out on her face. "You think its funny messing with me?" I said in mock anger as I threw a pillow at her. "Kinda." She laughed. I shot her playful glare, throwing another pillow at her. "Ok ok sorry." She said putting her hands up in mock surrender. "But seriously though you can't call me that anymore." She said as she brought her stuff inside and sat on her bed. "I know. Sucks though, Xypher is a cool name." "Yeah, so is Nyx. Gonna be really hard not calling you that actually."
She laid down on he bed and turned to face me. "You know I never got to ask you why you chose Luxembourg." She said. "Well, its a relatively small country so I doubt anybody would search for me here and a lot of international students come here so I wouldn't stick out. You?" "Same here."
~Time skip~
Over the last few months Maya and I got way closer than before. Despite having different friend groups and doing different courses we always found a way to spend time together between classes. Sharing a dorm was definitely a plus.
Over the time we've spent together I've realised that I like Maya. She could like me back, at least I hope so. I mean we did stuff that most people would consider non platonic, always finding excuses to hold each other, spending almost every bit of our a free time together and flirting. Although I could be reading into things, but I hoped I wasn't.
I laid in my bed, waiting for Maya to get back. She plopped down onto my bed as soon as she entered our room. "I missed you." She said. "You just saw me this morning." I giggled. "Still, that was so long ago." I shook my head at her dramtic groan. "Since you miss me so much we should go out, spend some time together." I suggested. "What do you have in mind?" She asked and turned to me. "Well... what about that museum we've been wanting to go to?" "Perfect, the date night location has been chosen then." She said, getting up. That was another thing, we always called our hangouts dates. I don't know where it came from but I suddenly got the courage to actually confess. "Actually Maya before we go there's something I wanted to tell you." She raised an eyebrow at me before sitting back down. "What's up? Is something wrong?" "No, no. Its just.... what if this was an actual date, like a romantic one?" "You want it to be one?" She asked, the shock evident in her voice. I simply nodded in response. She smiled probably the widest smile I've seen on her face, which is saying something because Maya is almost always smiling, before responding. "I want that too." "Its a date then. A date date." I said. "I like the sound of that." She interlocked our hands before getting up and pulling me along. "Come on, lets go on our date date." She said as she lead us out of the dorm, a wide grin still plastered on her face. I giggled at her excitement as we left the room, though I was just as, if not more excited than her for tonight.
