_____________________________________The bright light of the morning sun shone through the opening of the treehouse, striking Wyatt's face. He turned away from it and reached out for Frankie next to him.
Only...
She wasn't there.
Upon realizing this, Wyatt snapped out of his slumber and sat up quickly. He put his hand out on the spot where she was lying and began to look around.
"Francesca?" He asked himself quietly as he scratched the back of his head.
Wyatt shifted forward and gathered his clothes. He realized hers were gone too as he began to dress in a panic.
He had no idea where she had gone and he was incredibly confused. One minute they were sharing their first time, the next they were falling asleep in each other's arms.
Now, she was nowhere in sight.
When he finished putting his clothes on, Wyatt climbed out of the tree house and began to wander the woods.
"Francesca!" He called into the forest. "Are you there?"
After searching and calling for her for a few minutes, he began to run toward his house.
If she wasn't out here, she had to be there.
Wyatt's chest was heaving as he ran through the sliding back door. Maddie was standing there eating breakfast but paused as she saw her brother's worried face.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"Have you seen Francesca?" He responded breathlessly.
Maddie shook her head and looked at her brother confused. She had no idea where Frankie was. She hadn't seen her since she left to cheer for Wyatt's game the afternoon before.
Wyatt ran through the house to the foyer and flew up the stairs. After running down the hall, he burst into Frankie's bedroom only to find it empty. All of her things were still there except her book bag. The bed was made and hardly anything was out of place. He furrowed his brows as he thought of where to look next.
Wyatt went back to his room to grab his car keys. As he shuffled around the room frantically, he nearly missed the piece of notebook paper sitting on his bed. The moment his eyes caught it, he froze and stared at it for a moment.
Wyatt cautiously approached his bed with a churning feeling in the pit of his stomach. He reached out for the paper and picked it up to read it.
Wyatt,
I left a note this time...Please don't come looking for me. Thank you for being my first. It was perfect, being with you. I love you with my whole heart and I know I always will. I know I said I wanted to be together forever but I have to go now. It was nothing you did. It was just time. Just know this: I love you and I really am sorry.
-Frankie
Wyatt's eyes scanned the note over and over again. He dropped to the bed as his heart sank in his chest.
He couldn't believe this.
He couldn't believe her.
Even though she'd written that she was grateful, he was convinced she felt otherwise. Wyatt immediately wished he could take it all back.
He knew something was wrong with Frankie that night. He knew she was vulnerable and that something had upset her. Still, he went along with it, giving in to his selfish ambitions of finally having sex with her. Now she regrets it. Now she was leaving him and he had no idea where to find her.
