Wyatt stared at the back of Frankie's head, just four seats ahead of him. He was chewing on the end of his pencil, contemplating whether or not she was truly worth pursuing. Nolan and Maddie had made it pretty clear that his efforts would be fruitless.
His instincts were telling him to keep trying but a voice deep down inside was telling him it was pointless. She was so stuck in her ways and easily persuaded by her father that maybe it wasn't worth it.
Maybe he should go back to the girls he usually hung around. Maddie and Kelly's friends that were easy to get along with. They were always straightforward in what they wanted from him. They didn't make him jump through hoops to get what he wanted or work so hard to simply kiss them.
The mental gymnastics of trying to convince Frankie of her own feelings was driving him insane. Maybe he should do as she insisted and leave her alone.
"Mr Walker?" The teacher pulled him from his thoughts.
"Yeah?"
"I asked if you could please come up here and fill in these answers from your homework assignment."
Wyatt nodded his head and stood up with his paper. Frankie kept her eyes forward as he walked past her. That scent of his laundry detergent and cologne wafting from his clothes took her back to that moment they shared in the woods behind his house.
She watched carefully as he began to write on the board, filling in the empty spaces that were there. Frankie bit down on her lip as her eyes remained glued to him and the way he moved.
She was drawn to his strong arms and the way he lifted the marker to the board. His handwriting was really bad but she found it charming. It almost humanized him in a way, taking away from his physical perfection.
She liked how casually he dressed. His sweatpants and t shirt were simple but molded to his muscular figure. The way his hair fell back as he pushed it out of his face. Frankie pressed her thighs together as she scolded herself for thinking shameless thoughts of him.
Frankie looked past him, furrowed her brows and squinted at the board. She looked down at her own paper and saw that one of his answers didn't match hers. She thought about it for a moment and realized hers was correct.
Frankie contemplated pointing this out but feared it could embarrass Wyatt. Looking at him, a bitterness took over her heart as she remembered his lips on that other girl. His hands roaming that girl's body and the way he inconsiderately did it in front of her face.
Frankie raised her hand in the air.
"Yes Frankie?" The teacher asked.
Wyatt dropped his hand from the board and looked back over his shoulder. The entire class turned their heads to look at the girl who rarely raised her hand and eagerly awaited for her to speak.
"One of his answers is wrong," she spoke softly.
Wyatt let out a frustrated sigh and rolled his eyes. Of course Frankie would only speak up to call out one of his faults.
"The Night of the Long Knives lasted 3 days, not 2."
The teacher looked at the board and smirked to herself.
"You're right Frankie," she nodded her head. "Mr Walker, go ahead and fix your mistake."
Wyatt glared at Frankie who then felt guilty for calling him out. She shifted uncomfortably and turned her head to look out the window, moving her hair into her face as if to hide from him.
After Wyatt edited his incorrect answer and finished filling in the rest of the prompts, he put the cap on the marker and turned to walk back to his desk. He made sure to pass by Frankie and leaned down to whisper in her ear.
