Seungkwan was the golden child. It was a well-known fact in his household, in his neighborhood, and practically anywhere he set foot. His parents had always showered him with everything he ever wanted, from the latest toys to the most luxurious vacations. Even now, as an adult, the pampering hadn’t stopped.
“Seungkwan, darling, do you need anything else before your meeting?” His mother’s voice floated into the living room, where Seungkwan sat sprawled out on a plush couch, surrounded by snacks and a few of his favorite gadgets.
“No, Mom, I’m fine,” he replied, though he barely glanced up from his phone. “But maybe get someone to make sure the car’s ready. I don’t want to be late.”
“Of course, dear. I’ll have the driver waiting for you in ten minutes.”
In the background, the household staff moved like clockwork, ensuring that Seungkwan’s day would run as smoothly as possible. The maids adored him, the cooks catered to his picky tastes, and the driver never dared to be a second late. After all, Seungkwan was used to the world revolving around him.
But then, there was you.
You’d grown up with Seungkwan, back when his world was smaller and slightly less golden. You came from a modest background, your family living in a much smaller house just a few streets away from his grand estate. Despite the differences in status, you and Seungkwan had been inseparable as kids. You were the one who taught him how to ride a bike (after he demanded you teach him) and the one who pulled him out of trouble when his entitled behavior got the better of him.
But time had a way of pulling people apart. While Seungkwan’s life had grown more luxurious, you’d focused on your studies, determined to carve out your own path. Years later, when you both found yourselves back in your hometown, you’d taken a job as Seungkwan’s personal assistant.
It wasn’t glamorous, but it paid well—and more importantly, it meant you could keep an eye on your childhood friend who, despite all his pampering, you still cared about. Even if he did drive you insane most days.
Seungkwan strutted into the dining room where his parents sat enjoying their breakfast. His mother immediately smiled and gestured for one of the maids to prepare his favorite pancakes, while his father, reading the newspaper, gave him a proud nod.
“Seungkwan, son, how’s everything going with the new product launch?” his father asked, looking up from the finance section.
“Smooth as silk, Dad. I’m thinking of making a few tweaks to the marketing strategy though. I want it to be perfect.” Seungkwan grinned, confidence radiating from him.
“That’s my boy,” his father praised. “Always aiming for the best.”
Seungkwan basked in the approval, feeling invincible as always. After all, his life had always been like this—everyone catering to his every need, his parents praising his every move, and the world bending to his will. Why would things ever be different?
But today, there was one person who wasn’t in the mood to indulge him.
As Seungkwan finished his breakfast and headed out to the car, he spotted you waiting by the driveway, clipboard in hand, looking as stern as ever.
“Good morning, Seungkwan,” you greeted him, though your tone was more business-like than friendly.
“Good morning, Y/N,” he replied, flashing you one of his signature smiles. “Ready to make my day run flawlessly?”
You raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “I’m ready to make sure your day runs according to plan. You’re late for the meeting, by the way.”
Seungkwan frowned, glancing at his watch. “It’s only five minutes—besides, they can wait.”
