Elara's POV
The next morning, I awoke to the soft sounds of birds chirping outside my window. I could feel the warmth of the sun filtering through the curtains, casting gentle patterns of light on my face. Even though I couldn't see it, I savored the sensation of morning—its calmness, the freshness in the air. For the first time in a long while, I felt a quiet sense of peace, a fleeting feeling that things might be okay.
After a moment of grounding myself, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and slowly made my way downstairs. I used my hand to trail along the wall as I descended, feeling more confident about navigating Liam's home. Each day, the layout became a little clearer in my mind, and each step felt slightly less daunting.
When I reached the kitchen, I was surprised to smell freshly brewed coffee and the comforting aroma of toast. Liam was already there, moving around the kitchen with a practiced ease.
"Good morning," he greeted, his voice warm and welcoming. I couldn't help but smile at the hint of cheerfulness in his tone.
"Good morning," I replied, settling into a chair at the table. I felt him place a mug of coffee in front of me, and I wrapped my hands around it, feeling the warmth seep into my fingers.
"I thought I'd make breakfast for us," he said, a hint of pride in his voice. "It's nothing fancy, but I figured we could enjoy it together."
The thoughtfulness in his gesture made my heart swell. He was trying so hard to make me feel comfortable here, and I appreciated it more than I could put into words. "Thank you, Liam. This is... really kind of you."
As we ate, he began to talk about his day ahead, sharing small details about his work and the things he hoped to accomplish. I listened, finding comfort in his voice, and feeling a strange sense of normalcy settling over us. It felt good to have someone to share these little moments with, to feel like a part of something.
Suddenly, he paused, as if something had just come to mind. "I was thinking... maybe later today, we could go for a walk. There's a beautiful garden nearby, and I think you'd love it. I'll guide you, of course."
A walk. The idea sounded wonderful, even if it made me slightly nervous. But Liam's voice was so inviting, so reassuring, that I found myself nodding. "I'd like that."
Liam's POV
Seeing Elara smile at my suggestion filled me with a strange, deep warmth. I wanted her to feel free again, to experience the world even if she couldn't see it anymore. She deserved joy, and I was determined to help her find it.
The morning flew by, and before long, it was time for our walk. I guided her carefully, holding her hand as we made our way down the quiet streets and toward the small garden. She seemed hesitant at first, her fingers gripping mine tightly as we walked, but gradually, I felt her relax, trusting me with each step.
When we reached the garden, I led her to a bench surrounded by blooming flowers. The air was thick with the sweet scent of roses and lilies, and I watched her face soften as she took it all in.
"Can you describe it to me?" she asked quietly, her face turned slightly upward, as if she were searching for something beyond what she could see.
I took a deep breath, trying to capture the scene in words. "There are roses all around us, red and pink, their petals bright and soft. And there's a big willow tree just over there," I said, gesturing, though she couldn't see it. "Its branches sway gently with the breeze, casting long shadows on the ground. The sunlight filters through the leaves, creating patterns on the grass."
Elara's face broke into a small smile, and I could see her imagining it all in her mind. "It sounds beautiful."
"It is," I replied, watching her, "but I think you make it even more so."
The words slipped out before I could stop myself, and I saw her cheeks flush, a soft blush spreading across her face. She bit her lip, looking down as if she didn't know how to respond, and I could feel my own heart beating faster. I was nervous, too, caught up in the simplicity and sweetness of the moment.
Elara's POV
Hearing his words made my heart race in a way I hadn't felt in a long time. There was something so genuine, so pure, in the way he spoke, and I felt my walls slowly beginning to crumble.
"Thank you, Liam," I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. "For everything."
His fingers brushed mine, sending a gentle warmth up my arm. I knew then that, for the first time in a long time, I was allowing myself to feel again, to hope. And it was both terrifying and exhilarating.
Maybe, just maybe, this was the beginning of something beautiful.
