Betty's POV:

I watched Liam walk away, satisfaction curling in my chest. I knew he'd feel obligated to stay close after I dropped the "news." My phone buzzed, and I saw the message from Sam, my real boyfriend and partner in this whole plan.

Sam: So, how'd it go?

Me: He agreed. Financial support only, but it's a start. Once the "baby" arrives, he'll have to do more.

I slipped my phone back into my bag, smirking at the thought of Liam's helplessness. This plan had come to life after Sam and I had hit rock bottom last month. Bills were piling up, and Sam's job wasn't cutting it. Then, in a moment of inspiration, we realized Liam was the perfect target. He was successful, decent, and—most importantly—still guilt-ridden over how things ended between us.

The best part? Liam didn't suspect a thing. I had played up every vulnerable expression, every tear, knowing he'd feel compelled to help. And now, all we had to do was keep up the act long enough to drain him for what we needed.

Later that night, I met up with Sam, excitement bubbling up between us. He leaned in, chuckling, "So, what's next? How do we keep him on the hook?"

I flashed him a grin. "Easy. We let him believe this will be a simple arrangement. Once 'baby time' rolls around, we'll up the stakes, make it seem like we need more support. Hospital bills, baby gear, 'complications'—whatever it takes. He'll keep paying, no questions asked."

Sam's face lit up with admiration. "You're brilliant, Betty. Once we've got enough, we'll ghost him and be set for a long time."

For now, the money would start flowing soon enough. And by the time Liam found out the truth—if he ever did—we'd be far, far away.
