Liam's POV

As the days dragged on in the hospital, each moment felt heavier than the last. Elara lay in her bed, surrounded by machines that beeped with every heartbeat, and I found myself slipping into a routine of waiting and worrying. The doctors assured me she was stable, but the uncertainty gnawed at me. I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to her attack than met the eye.

With Elara in critical condition, I knew I couldn't sit idly by. I needed answers—answers about Betty, the woman who had once been a friend to Elara but had now turned into a shadow lurking in our lives. I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands.

Late one evening, after spending hours by Elara's bedside, I made a phone call. I reached out to a private investigation agency I had heard about from a colleague. They specialized in discreet investigations, and that's exactly what I needed.

"Hello, this is Liam," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "I need your help. I want to gather information on a person named Betty. She might be connected to an attack on my girlfriend."

"Certainly, Mr.," the investigator replied, his tone professional. "We can start looking into her background, any recent activities, and her connections. This will take a bit of time, but we'll keep you updated."

"Thank you. I need this done quietly. Elara is in the hospital, and I don't want any trouble," I said, feeling a weight lift slightly off my shoulders.

"Understood. We'll proceed with caution."

After hanging up, I felt a sense of determination surge within me. I couldn't let Elara's vulnerability go unchecked. I had to protect her, and that meant uncovering the truth about Betty—who she really was and why she had turned against Elara.

Days Passed in the Hospital

Each day blurred together as I kept my vigil by Elara's side. I read to her, holding her hand tightly, hoping my words would reach her through the haze of her unconsciousness. But my mind was never far from my mission. I often found myself glancing at my phone, waiting for updates from the investigators.

Finally, I received a message late one night:

"We've found some leads on Betty. Meet us tomorrow at the coffee shop on Main Street."

I felt a mix of apprehension and urgency. This was it—the first step toward uncovering the truth. I needed to gather whatever information I could to protect Elara and understand what had happened.

The Meeting

The next day, I arrived at the coffee shop, my heart racing as I spotted the investigator, a man in his late thirties with sharp features and an air of professionalism. He greeted me with a firm handshake.

"Mr. Liam, I appreciate you meeting with me. We've gathered some information on Betty that you should know," he said, leading me to a quieter corner of the café.

"Please, tell me everything," I urged, my pulse quickening.

"We started with her background. Betty has a history that might surprise you. She was once involved in a few minor legal issues—nothing serious, but it paints a picture of someone who doesn't always make the best choices."

"Go on," I pressed, eager for more.

"She has connections with some unsavory individuals. Recently, she's been seen with a group of men known for their shady dealings. We couldn't find direct evidence linking her to the attack on Elara, but the timing of her associations is concerning."

My heart sank. "Do you think she was involved?"

"It's too early to say definitively, but I would advise you to be cautious. We're digging deeper, and I'll keep you updated with any new findings," he said.

"Thank you. I just want to make sure Elara is safe," I replied, the weight of the situation pressing heavily on my shoulders.

Back at the Hospital

When I returned to the hospital, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. I had to protect Elara, but I also needed to confront Betty—gathering evidence would be essential if I wanted to keep Elara safe and expose Betty for who she truly was.

As I entered Elara's room, I was greeted by the steady rhythm of the machines, a reminder of her fragility. I pulled a chair closer, sitting beside her and taking her hand again.

"I'm working on it, Elara. I promise I'll figure this out," I whispered, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "You're my everything, and I won't let anything happen to you again."

I spent the evening speaking softly to her, sharing stories of our past and plans for the future. I needed her to hear my voice, to know I was here for her.

The Investigation Continues

As the investigation into Betty continued, I learned more about her connections and activities. The investigators uncovered a network of individuals who might have motives against Elara. The pieces began to fit together, revealing a darker side to the woman we had once trusted.

With every revelation, my determination grew. I wouldn't stop until I had all the evidence needed to protect Elara. I knew she wouldn't rest easy until she understood the truth behind the betrayal.

Each day spent waiting for her to awaken felt like an eternity, but I knew I had to be strong—for her sake. The battle was far from over, but I was ready to face whatever came next.
