Liam's POV

The weight of my confrontation with Betty lingered as I walked away, my heart pounding with a mix of anger and relief. I had taken the first step in reclaiming my life, but the aftermath felt daunting. I needed to find Elara and reassure her that I was taking control of my situation, but part of me feared what it might cost us.

As I stepped back into the garden, the bright sunlight felt harsh against my skin. Elara and Jake were sitting on the blanket, their faces etched with concern. I could see the questions in their eyes, and it made my stomach twist with unease.

"Hey, you okay?" Elara's voice broke through my thoughts, her tone soft and inviting.

"I'm fine. Just had to deal with some things," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

Jake glanced between us, clearly sensing the tension. "So, what's the deal with Betty?" he asked, cutting straight to the point.

I took a deep breath, knowing I had to be honest. "She's been lying about the pregnancy. It's all part of her manipulation."

Elara's expression shifted to one of shock and concern. "What? Are you sure?"

"Jake heard her talking about it," I said, glancing at my friend. "She was bragging about how she could manipulate me. It's all a game to her."

Elara's face fell, and I could see the sadness in her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Liam. You didn't deserve that."

"Thanks, but it's not over yet. I told her I'm done with her games, but I have to be careful. She won't just walk away." I felt the weight of my words settle heavily between us.

Jake chimed in, "You need to stay vigilant, Liam. She'll try to pull you back in, but don't let her. You've got to stick to your guns."

Elara reached for my hand, her grip reassuring. "We're here for you. You're not alone in this."

I felt a surge of gratitude for their support, but my mind was still racing with possibilities of how Betty might retaliate. "Thanks, both of you. I just wish I could make sure this doesn't affect you, Elara."

Elara's POV

As Liam spoke, I could see the turmoil etched across his face. I wanted to help him shoulder this burden, but I also felt a sense of helplessness. I couldn't change the situation, but I could be there for him.

"Liam, you're strong," I said softly. "You've already taken a huge step by confronting her. Just remember that you're not in this alone."

His eyes softened as he looked at me, and for a moment, the heaviness of the situation lifted slightly. "I appreciate that, Elara. It just feels like I'm in a storm right now, and I don't know when it will pass."

"You'll get through it," I reassured him. "We'll figure this out together."

Liam's POV

With Elara's words wrapping around me like a comforting blanket, I felt a flicker of hope ignite within. Maybe I could navigate this storm, especially with her by my side.

Just then, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and frowned at the unknown number flashing on the screen. My instincts told me it could only be one person. "I need to take this," I said, stepping away for some privacy.

"Be careful," Jake cautioned, his tone serious.

I nodded and answered the call, bracing myself for what was to come. "Hello?"

"Liam, it's Betty," her voice was smooth, almost sickly sweet, and it sent a chill down my spine. "I heard you've been talking to people about me."

My heart raced as I gripped the phone tighter. "What do you want, Betty?"

"I just wanted to clear the air. We can work things out, you know. You don't want to ruin things between us over some misunderstanding," she said, feigning innocence.

"Misunderstanding? You've been lying to me and manipulating me for weeks. What kind of relationship is built on lies?" I shot back, my anger bubbling to the surface.

"I was just trying to get you to care," she retorted, her tone sharp. "You're a good guy, Liam. You can't just throw that away."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "You're right. I'm a good guy, which is why I won't let you play with my life anymore. This ends now."

Her laughter echoed through the line, cold and unsettling. "You think you can just walk away? I won't let you leave that easily, Liam. You're in this whether you like it or not."

Before I could respond, she hung up, leaving me staring at my phone in disbelief. Rage surged through me, but beneath it lay an unmistakable fear.

I walked back to Elara and Jake, feeling the weight of what had just happened.

"What did she say?" Elara asked, her eyes wide with concern.

I clenched my jaw, trying to keep my composure. "She's not going to let this go. She thinks she can control me."

"Liam..." Jake started, but I cut him off.

"No, I can't let her. I need to figure out a plan. I won't let her drag me down."

Elara squeezed my hand tighter, grounding me in the moment. "We'll figure it out together, I promise."

As we sat in the garden, the sun beginning to set, I realized this battle was far from over. But with Elara and Jake by my side, I felt a renewed determination. I wouldn't let Betty win; I would reclaim my life and protect those I cared about.
