I was having second thoughts about school. I kept thinking 'what if they don't like me' and 'what if it happens again, they ignore me?'
It was the Saturday evening before school, and I was trying on my new uniform. It was a wine knee length skirt, itchy woollen wine jumper, stiff white shirt and a green and wine striped tie. Sally was perched on my bed, cheering me on as I confidently 'modelled' my new uniform. Suddenly I sank to my knees. "Sally, I can't do this!" I moaned, almost in tears. She was shocked, asking why I couldn't. Then it hit her. "You're afraid you'll be invisible, aren't you?-all over again" I slowly nodded my head, feeling ashamed. Sally gazed at me, somewhat sympathetic, like she somehow knew exactly how I was feeling. Then her eyes lit up. "Then we'll make them see you." She said, rubbing her hands together repeatedly. I didn't really know what she meant by that, but I just went with it.
Bright and early Sally announced she was taking me out. We drove in Sally's bottle green Mini Cooper, blaring her music out the window. That day, I found out Sally had a pretty good taste in music. She loved the Script and was going to see them in concert soon with her boyfriend. She babbled on about the lead singer Danny until we reached ... The hairdressers. I wondered what she was planning.
We sat in the hairdressers, flicking through old Hello magazines and chatting, until I plucked up the courage to ask Sally what I was actually doing here. She grinned and asked me if I had ever heard of dip-dye. I practically had to beg her to allow me to get pink. She had a slightly more subtle colour in mind, but I eventually won her over. When it was done, I looked in the mirror and was shocked. It looked really amazing!
After the hairdressers, Sally brought me to buy some new clothes. I wasn't very good at putting together nice outfits, but turns out Sally was. I also picked out a new schoolbag. I felt really confident and ready for the next day, and I had Sally to thank.
