It’s been a week since everything went crazy, and Renee has managed to stay away from Pierre. He just wasn’t ready to talk to him yet. Pierre has been calling him non-stop, and Renee feels lost about what to do. Even at work, he tries to keep to himself.

Today, he didn’t expect to see Pierre at the vet clinic. He was there to get Pixel’s wound checked. Just as he was about to leave, he was shocked to find Pierre standing right in front of him.

What was he doing here?

“Hi,” Pierre greeted him as they faced each other.

Renee stared at him, speechless.

“Surprised to see me?” Pierre asked, looking sad. He didn’t have his usual energy or smile.

“You just stopped talking to me, and I don’t get why,” Renee replied, feeling a bit guilty. He ignored Pierre, who looked hurt by it.

Did it really bother him that much?

Renee couldn’t find the words, just continued to look at him.

“Can we talk, Renee?”

Talk? That was exactly what he wanted to avoid. Things were getting awkward, but he realized that avoiding this conversation might make things worse. He was tired of hiding. He nodded slowly.

That’s how they ended up at Renee’s house.

“I didn’t like what happened. I didn’t like that you cut me off. I thought we were friends,” Pierre said, looking straight at him.

Renee bit his lip, feeling guilty. “I was scared. I panicked…” He paused. “I’m sorry, Pierre.”

“I was sad because I thought I lost you.”

Renee looked down at his hands in his lap, nervously fiddling with them.

"I don't know why I kept my distance from you. Maybe I was just afraid of how you'd react when you learned about... well, you know. The fact that he’s your friend made it even harder for me to deal with. I was trying to figure it all out myself," Renee said.

"And now that you know what happened with Tristan, I’m unsure where we stand," he added. Saying Tristan's name sent chills down his spine; it had been so long since he uttered it.

He missed saying it.

"I know what happened, but just because he’s my friend and you had a thing with him doesn’t mean we should ruin our friendship. I get how you feel; it was tough for me too, but I’m okay now. I still want to be your friend, even if we can’t be what I hoped for," Pierre replied, making Renee look up at him.

"You're not upset?"

"That you still prefer him?"

Pierre fell silent.

"I didn’t cho—" Renee started, but Pierre interrupted.

"Renee, I know you still think about him. When I started to like you, I realized it would be one-sided. You were so caught up in your memories with him that you didn’t want to make new ones with someone else. You weren’t over him. I noticed the sad look on your face whenever you were lost in thought. That day at the club, I saw the longing in your eyes, and it’s still there. When you saw Tristan, you had that same look, and then you panicked and left."

Renee was taken aback by Pierre's words; he never realized he was so perceptive.

Was it really that clear?
