I was just mounting my broom when Professor McGonagall came marching across the pitch, carrying an enormous purple megaphone.
McGonagall: This match has been cancelled!
There were boos and shouts. Oliver Wood, looking devastated, landed and ran towards Professor McGonagall without getting off his broomstick.
Wood: But Professor! We've got to play... the Cup... Gryffindor...
Professor McGonagall ignored him and continued to shout through her megaphone.
McGonagall: All students are to make their way back to the house common rooms, where their Heads of Houses will give them further information. As quickly as you can, please!
Then she lowered the megaphone and beckoned Harryand I over to her.
McGonagall: Potter, Tybur, I think you'd better come with me.
Ron came running over to us as we set off towards the castle. To our surprise, Professor McGonagall didn't even give it a second thought.
McGonagall: Yes, perhaps you'd both better come too, Weasley.
Some of the students swarming around us were grumbling about the match being cancelled, others looked worried. Harry, Ron, and I followed Professor McGonagall back into the school and up the marble staircase. But we weren't taken to anybody's office this time.
McGonagall: This will be a bit of a shock.
She spoke in a surprisingly gentle voice as they approached the hospital wing.
McGonagall: There has been another attack...
My insides did a horrible somersault, as I realized that there were two people I hadn't seen in the stands. Professor McGonagall pushed the door open and we entered. Madam Pomfrey was bending over a sixth year girl with long curly hair. I recognized her as a Ravenclaw prefect. And on the beds next to her...
Ron: Hermione!
YN: Pieck!
Both lay utterly still, their eyes open and glassy. I ran over to Pieck's side, grabbing her hand. It was warm, but stiff.
McGonagall: They were found near the library. I don't suppose either of you can explain this? It was on the floor next to them...
She was holding up a small, circular mirror. We shook our heads
McGonagall: I will escort you back to Gryffindor Tower. I need to address the students in any case.
When we reached the common room, Professor McGonagall pulled me aside after sending Harry and Ron in.
McGonagall: I am not sure if you knew this, Mr Tybur... but I was present when you were born. In fact, I was chosen to be your godmother.
My eyes widened as she continued.
McGonagall: I promised your parents I would look after you. The other staff members don't believe I should entrust this knowledge to you, especially as I am your teacher. However, I know you and your friends are going to search for the chamber regardless of the rules. So as your godmother, I am giving you this.
She handed me a small book, with the four houses symbols emblazoned on the front.
McGonagall: This is all of the information the school has collected regarding the Chamber of Secrets, from this year and the incident fifty years ago. Use it wisely.
YN: I... I don't know what to say.
McGonagall: Do not share the information with anyone other than those you trust.
