Kinn reached his room and settled into his chair, steadily breathing as he dialed Pete's number. After a few rings, the line picked up, and Pete's calm, polite tone greeted him.
"Hello! Kinn."
"Hey, Pete," Kinn replied warmly. "How are you?"
"I'm alright, thanks. And you?" Pete responded, polite and composed.
"I'm doing okay too," Kinn said, though a hint of concern lingered in his tone. "I just...wanted to check on you after everything yesterday. I hope it didn't leave you feeling awkward."
"No, not at all," Pete reassured him gently. "I appreciate that you're reaching out. I know things were... complicated."
Kinn exhaled, feeling a sense of relief. "Thank you for understanding Pete. Actually, I called because Vegas and I wanted to meet and discuss the internship opportunity with you. We didn't get the chance to go over it yesterday."
Pete responded with calm sincerity. "Thank you, Kinn. I'm genuinely interested in the internship. I think it could be a valuable opportunity."
"It's good to know you feel that way," Kinn replied, pleased. "I've heard great things about your work. I'd really like Vegas to see that too. This might be a good opportunity for you to showcase your skills."
"Thanks, Kinn. That means a lot to me," Pete replied.
Kinn then hesitated briefly before asking, "Pete, would it be possible for us to meet today in the evening?"
Pete's voice softened apologetically. "I wish I could, but I have a test starting today. It's really important, and it'll keep me occupied for the next three days. I'm afraid I won't be able to meet until it's over."
A hint of disappointment crept into Kinn's tone, but he quickly brushed it aside. "Ah, I see. Well, focus on your test. Once you're done, let me know, and we'll make plans accordingly.
"Thank you for understanding, Kinn," Pete said, genuinely appreciative. "I'll reach out as soon as it's over."
They both paused for a moment and then Pete spoke up cautiously. "Kinn..."
"Yes, Pete?"
"Would it be alright if I asked you something?"
"Of course," Kinn replied, curious.
Pete hesitated, his tone soft but genuine. "How's Vegas doing?"
Kinn felt a small smile at Pete's question, sensing the quiet concern beneath it. "I think he's just trying to work things out in his own way. He'll be alright, even if it takes some time."
"I hope he will," Pete said thoughtfully.
Kinn noted the concern lingering in Pete's tone and decided to reassure him. "I think he will, Pete. And thank you for asking."
There was a slight shift, and then Kinn added, "Oh, and one more thing. When we do meet, could you bring along a project or two? It might help to showcase your potential and give us a better sense of your work. I think it'd be a good chance for you to show what you can do."
"Sure" Pete replied calmly.
"Great. Take care, Pete, and best of luck with your test."
"Thanks, Kinn. I'll talk to you soon."
They ended the call with a quiet understanding. Kinn leaned back, a hopeful smile lingering as he thought about the potential he saw in Pete—not just in his work but in the thoughtfulness he'd shown. Meanwhile, Pete gathered his things for the day, feeling an unexpected sense of purpose as he left for the university, his mind already shifting toward his upcoming test.
The final day of exams
The last day of exams had finally wrapped up, and Pete made his way to the college canteen, relieved and ready to unwind. He settled into a chair, dialing Porsche to meet him. Not long after, Porsche arrived, his usual bright grin lighting up his face.
"Hey, Pete!" Porsche called out, sweeping Pete into a bear hug.
"Oi, Porsche... you're... going to crush me... leave...ee—" Pete laughed, trying to wriggle free.
Porsche let him go, laughing as he ruffled Pete's hair. "Ah, come on! You survived exams—you can survive this!" he teased, then grabbed a chair and plopped down beside him. "So, what's on the menu today?"
Scanning the options, Pete raised a brow thoughtfully. "Kaeng Lueang for me. What about you?"
"Khao Pad," Porsche decided, glancing over the rest of the menu, though they both stuck with their first choices. After placing the order, they returned to their seats and waited for the food, chatting about the exams and upcoming projects.
When the food finally arrived, they dug in. Midway through his Khao Pad, Porsche looked over at Pete, an excited spark in his eye. "So... when are you meeting Kinn and Vegas?"
Pete took a sip of water before answering. "I was thinking of calling them today. Then we can figure out a time and place."
"Oh, don't worry about that," Porsche grinned. "I'm coming with you too. Kinn told me to tag along!"
Pete blinked in surprise. "Wait, you're coming too?"
"Yep!" Porsche said, clearly enjoying Pete's reaction. "I mean, I'm practically your hype man. Plus, you've gotta show them your best work—so get those top projects ready. This is your moment, Pete."
Pete chuckled, shaking his head. "Alright, alright. I'll bring my best. Just... don't oversell it, okay?"
Porsche raised a brow, smirking. "Please. They'll see how talented you are in no time. Just make sure you're prepared."
"Thanks, Porsche," Pete said with a small smile, appreciating the support. They continued eating, Porsche keeping the conversation light and encouraging as they finished their meal. With Porsche by his side and a bit more confidence in his pocket, Pete felt ready to take on whatever came next.
