The air was chilly, and the snow was covering little Kayla's hair, but that didn't stop her from sitting on the porch, waiting in her reindeer costume.

"Honey, please come inside. You're going to catch a cold." She heard her mom call from the doorway.

"I'm waiting for Daddy." She spoke excitedly, kicking her little feet.

Her mom came and sat beside her. "I don't think he's coming, sweetie."

"Why not?" She looked at her mom with big eyes.

"Because he's an asshole." Luke spoke while coming out of the house.

"Language!" The woman scolded the teenage boy as he got closer to them.

"But he promised he'd make cookies with me for Santa." Kayla pouted, and tears formed in her eyes.

"I'll make cookies with you." Her brother said in a cheerful manner and picked up the little girl.

They all went inside, where Jack was also waiting. "He's bailing again?" The boy asked, rather frustrated than sad.

"I'm afraid not, mighty Jack." The woman's voice said soothingly.

"Come on." His big brother ruffled his hair. "Let's make cookies for Santa."

Just before they could reach the kitchen, the door was opened, revealing their father standing there.

The next thing they knew, their parents were fighting in another room while Luke tried to distract his younger siblings.

"He's such a piece of shit." Jack told his older brother.

"Don't use that word." He scolded his brother, just like their mother did him.

"Don't tell me what to do." He argued and fled to his room while Luke went to check on their parents, leaving Kayla by herself in the kitchen.

The little girl placed her head on her tiny hands, staring at the window.

Kayla woke up by the buzzing sound of her phone. It was JJ.

"Please tell me this is a 'Merry Christmas' call." She spoke on the phone.

"As much as I hate to disappoint, we have a case." Her voice sounded more concerned than usual.

"And that's not the only bad news, is it?" She asked skeptically while getting up from the bed.

"Hotch and Prentiss are not available, Gideon apparently isn't coming back, and that means it's only the four of us." She explained.

"Back up." She interrupted. "What was that about Gideon?"

"Reid found a letter at his cabin. He can tell you more." JJ continued. "Can you get ready in 20 minutes."

"You know it." She said before hanging up the phone.

"Paul Stewart. 36." The liaison spoke as they all got in the plane. "Two weeks ago, he killed his ex-wife and is holding their daughter, 8 year-old Taylor hostage."

"Wait." Kayla stopped the woman. "They know the UnSub and where the victim is. Why are we getting called into this?"

"That's the thing." JJ began explaining. "They don't know where he's holding the girl. He keeps sending the police clues about where they're going to find them, but they are inconclusive."
