The sound of bangs at the door woke Kayla up. She jumped from the bed and exited her bedroom, seeing Emily just as sleepy as she was looking confused and on high-alert.

"Are you waiting for someone?" Kayla questioned in a whisper.

"No." She said firmly just before the bangs started again, making them jump. "Should we open it?"

"Have you not noticed what happens when people open their door at 3 am?" Kayla said and saw Emily waiting for an answer to that. "We end up investigating their murders."

"Well, that's comforting." The brunette spoke while walking closer to the door.

"Ladies, open the door already." A familiar voice was heard from the other side of the door.

Emily opened it, revealing Derek impatiently waiting on the other side.

"Didn't you hear of calling?" Emily asked.

"Or light knocking?" Kayla added and let out a breath of relief.

"Well, you two are not answering your phones, and we have a case." He explained as he entered their kitchen.

"Does he always do that?" The brunette woman inched closer to the other.

"You'll get used to it." She answered while going after the man. "How bad?"

"Two kids were kidnapped from the playground in eastern Virginia." He told them while pouring coffee in some cups.

"Why are we getting called into this?" Emily wondered.

"Because the police think they've found the kidnapper, but they can't figure out where the kids are." He paused for a second and saw the two women standing there. "You two should hurry up. We leave in 20."

Both girls hurried out of the kitchen and into their rooms, getting ready for work.

While Kayla packed her bag, she heard a knock from her bedroom door.

"Come in." She announced, seeing Derek slide into the room. "What's up?"

"Reid is really getting better." He blurted out. "I think the program has helped him a lot."

"That's good." She nodded her head. "I'm glad."

"You should speak to him. He could use his best friend right now." He suggested.

"No. I think he made it pretty clear he needed me to keep some distance for now." She said while zipping her bag.

"Come one, Kayla." The man tried to reason. "You know he didn't mean it."

"This is not about my feelings, Derek." She explained. "However he said it, he still needs space from me right now."

"He wouldn't if you'd told him it wasn't you who told Hotch about what's going on with him. Why didn't you anyway?" He wondered.

"It wouldn't have made a difference." Kayla told him as she left the room with him on her tracks. "He was already mad at me. I didn't want him to be mad at both of his friends. He needed to talk to someone, and even if that person is you and not me, I still prefer it, than no one at all."

Morgan stared at her for a few seconds with a frown. "He's lucky to have someone like you loving him." He spoke in a serious tone.

"Don't be dramatic, I also love the rest of you." She teased.

"Not in the way you love him. And you can't deny it. You're in love with him." He pushed her shoulder lightly.

"Well, it's too late now." The blonde said while unlocking the door. "Emily, let's go."
