You made it home finally, clicking the handle of the door open as you stepped in and dumped your bags onto the floor- it was quiet again in the house but the looming feeling of dread over came you and you shifted with how odd it was; you began to enter your house, looking around the rooms you knew all too well and yet there was still a feeling of something being off or out of place no matter where you went even if everything looked the same. You entered the kitchen, it was empty all except for a note once again sat opened on the table- you hovered around it, hesitant to open it as you sighed and finally bit the bullet, it opened with ease as it had already had the seal broken and inside were only a few small words printed on the page; " Will the roots of the tree wither when bitten? ", it seemed like a riddle and yet it seemed to have no plausible answer other than just saying no logically speaking- you headed to your room with the page in hand and searched all web pages or forums you could find and the only repeating theme that popped up was the old norse mythology of Nidhogg the serpentine creature that gnawed at the roots of the world tree, something about the name, something about Nidhogg rang like a familiar tune in your head before a searing pain rocketed through you almost as if two worlds collided either side of you and crushed you in the middle.
You woke, the sun was bright and shining through cracks in the blinds- it was morning, you remember the night before almost instantly since it was the last memory you had before falling unconscious- a name seemed familiar to you and for some reason you couldn't seem to remember it now. You shook off the strange feeling and began to prepare for a shower, needing to keep some semblance of normality in case you began to lose it all. The feeling of something being missing was still ringing in your head even as the cold water of the shower hit your face and you took a deep breathe to try and concentrate and lose the feeling- you had almost no idea what caused the feeling or why you felt something was missing all except for a name and something on a note about roots.
You headed downstairs after the shower, fully dressed in your uniform as you saw your parents were already down there waiting for you and had breakfast set up.
Mom: " Honey we have some unfortunate news, apparently the club you work at burnt down last night in the really early hours of the morning; police say it's suspected to be the work or some loan sharks your boss owed money too. No one was hurt since there was not any signs of a body in the building but it seems your boss has gone missing "
You: " She's just missing? So she's not dead? "
Mom: " Thankfully not but you'll need to try save your money until you can find a new job- maybe hold off on buying an apartment for the time being "
You nodded, sure that you killed her the night before, you quietly ate breakfast at the table- your parents thankfully mistook it for grief and not confusion but there was no way you'd be linked to the fire right? Not unless your boss spoke out, but she tried to kill you first so there would be no way to charge you without also throwing herself into the flames first. Issei and Rias came down as you were still eating, you must have taken a while whilst spaced out and you decided to look at the time- 7:30 and school started at 8, you were usually there at 7.
Rias: " Oh you're still here (Y/N)? "
You: " Oh uh yeah, sorry must have spaced out and lost time there- I'll head to school with you both if you want, I need to speak to you on the way anyway so I'll wait up "
Rias: " Alright? "
They sat with you at the table, they chatted with your parents as they seemed happy Issei was finally bringing a girl home; they seemed to try joke with you about not having one but stopped when they realised you weren't paying attention and silently staring at your plate.
