The early morning air hung thick and still as the tribal circle tightened around them. The chants from the tribespeople grew louder, their voices echoing in a slow, haunting rhythm. Jungkook's gaze darted around, sizing up the number of figures closing in. He held Jimin close, feeling a surge of tension, his instincts kicking in as they edged nearer.
With a quick move, Jungkook released Jimin, stepping forward and throwing a punch at the nearest tribesman, knocking him backward. His movements were swift, slipping out of reach of grabbing hands, each kick and strike sending another opponent stumbling. Jimin watched with wide eyes, his heart racing as Jungkook fought with a mix of strength and skill that seemed effortless. Jimin couldn't help but smile as Jungkook met his gaze with a hint of confidence.
Meanwhile, Taehyung struggled against the ropes binding him to a rough post, twisting in frustration. "Yah! Jungkook-ah! Could use a hand over here!" he called, wriggling in vain. "Not exactly easy to help in this situation!"
Jimin, catching a break in the crowd, hurried over to Taehyung. "Stay still, Tae," he whispered with a smile, quickly working to undo the knots around Taehyung's wrists.
Finally, the last rope came loose, and Taehyung stumbled free, rubbing his wrists with a mutter of thanks. But his relief was short-lived as he saw a tribesman rushing at him. In a panic, Taehyung flailed his arms, landing a clumsy slap on the tribesman's face, who stopped in confusion. Taehyung took the chance to back away quickly, muttering, "Not exactly my idea of a plan..."
Jungkook spotted Taehyung's chaotic attempt, hiding a grin as he shoved another tribesman aside. "Nice work, Taehyung. Maybe try aiming a little higher next time," he called with a smirk.
Taehyung, undeterred, took his advice and swung his fists wildly at the next person in his path. A few punches landed, enough to make his opponent stumble. "See, Jungkook?" he shouted proudly. "I can hold my own!"
Just as they seemed to be gaining ground, more tribe members appeared, pouring out from the trees until the clearing was filled with their advancing figures. Jungkook's expression grew serious as he glanced at Jimin, taking his hand firmly. "We have to go. Now."
Jimin's face shifted from thrill to understanding as he nodded, gripping Jungkook's hand tighter.
Taehyung, just recovering from his own scuffle, looked up to see Jungkook and Jimin already starting to retreat into the trees. "Yah! Don't leave me behind!" he shouted, hurrying to follow, only to have another tribesman block his path. His eyes went wide, and in a burst of courage, he kicked at the man's shin, creating a small opening to dash after them.
"Run, Tae!" Jungkook shouted over his shoulder, guiding Jimin deeper into the forest, their steps quieted by the soft ground below. Taehyung kept close, his breath heavy as he dodged branches and ducked around trees, a flicker of excitement and fear in his eyes. He veered down a side path to dodge another tribesman, separating him briefly from the others.
Jungkook led Jimin steadily, glancing back now and then to keep an eye on him. Tall trees loomed above them, their branches casting shadows that tangled into eerie shapes. When Jimin stumbled on a root, Jungkook steadied him, pulling him close until he regained his balance.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook's tone softened, his gaze searching Jimin's face.
Jimin nodded, catching his breath with a smile. "Yes, but what about Taehyung?"
"I don't know; he might be close behind us," Jungkook murmured, managing a small grin.
Just then, Taehyung's voice rang out through the trees, his panic clear. "JUNGKOOK! WAIT FOR ME!"
