Chapter 10: Newbie

"And when we send Thomas in...."

Casey couldn't hear very well. She pressed her ear harder on the door.

"But before Thomas is Chuck, Casey's younger brother. Chuck is younger than most of the, so therefore they will probably treat him like an outcast but when Casey remembers it's her brother, that will shock them. So, we aren't exactly sure how they will react to that yet. Okay, time for bed. We will plan new obstacles tomorrow."

The door Casey was leaning on opened and Casey fell through it and onto the ground. She rubbed her head and looked up nervously.

"Casey, how many times have we told you, 8:30 is your bedtime and after that you mustn't leave your room!"

The man picked Casey up, since she was only five, and carried her back into her bedroom. He then gave her a shot that instantly made her fall asleep.

I woke up.

I was in the homestead, lying in a bed. Ha. That rhymed. The room was empty and I had a major headache. After a few long minutes of uncomfortably laying there, the door opened. Newt came in with a small smirk on his face.

"It's about time you bloody woke up." His face suddenly changed to serious, "What was your dream about."

"I didn't have a dream." I simply lied.

"Bloody hell, Casey! I know you were dreaming don't lie to me! What was you dream about?"

"My brother."

"Your brother?"

"Some kid named Chuck."

Newt stared at me for a couple more seconds but got up quickly when sirens started going off.

"Come on it's the newbie alarm. Don't ask it's pretty self explanatory."

Newt and I jogged out of the homestead and over to the box. Most of the glade had already gathered there, including Minho who smiled at me from the other side of the box. Newt, Minho, Alby and a few other gladers opened the box, revealing a small, slightly plump boy.

"What's your name shank?" Minho asked.

"Uh, Chuck the boy answered nervously.

Newt jerked around and looked at me.

"Chuck?" He said more to me than to the poor kid.

I didn't notice how wide my mouth was until my jaw began to hurt. I swallowed hard.

I didn't recognize him.

I only recognized his name but that doesn't count right?

Right?

Right!?
