“Run”
The faint sunlight went through the abandoned building's window, casting some light on the two men as they sprinted down the dimly lit corridor, hearts pounding in their chests. The air was thick with the smell of decay and something metallic that clung to their skin. Both of them were drenched in sweat, clothes torn and matted, stained with dark patches of blood-some theirs, some not.
Zee with his dark hair sticking to his forehead, his white shirt revealing a series of shallow cuts and bruises that criss crossed his arms. His eyes looked around, searching for an escape as he pulled on the hand of someone dear to him, Nunew.
Nunew's face was flushed, not just from exertion but also from the panic that filled him. He had a light brown hair, now speckled with dried blood. He had a deep cut on his cheek, and blood was slowly dripping down to his jaw.
Behind them, the moans and growls of the zombies echoed through the hallways, a horrifying scene that sent chills down their spines. The creatures, once human, were grotesque caricatures of their former selves, eyes white and blank, mouths filled with blood, smiles filled with jagged teeth.
"Almost there!" Zee yelled, their voice sounding tired as they got closer to a small room at the end of the hallway. The door was a little bit open, and a light that kept flickering was coming out of it. With each step, the low, rumbling sounds emitted by the zombies intensified.
"Go!" Nunew urged in desperation, his grip tightening on Zee's hand as they went through the door. Just as Zee tries to slam the door shut, the zombies collide against it with force. Their fingers clawed at the cracks, shrieking in frustration as they try to barge in.
Both Zee and Nunew struggled against the weight of the door, their bodies pressed against it as the undead kept clawing and pounding. Zee's muscles strained, sweat dripping down his brow as he gives his all. Besides him, Nunew grunted, his own strength waning under the pressure. They heaved together, their hearts racing, adrenaline washing over them.
Finally, with their all might after some time, they managed to push the door closed, the rusty latch clicking into place just as the zombies began to thrash against it. They collapsed against the door, panting heavily, their bodies trembling with exhaustion and fear.
As they leaned there, catching their breath Zee glanced at Nunew, who seemed to stare at the distance. “Nhu..” he calls him softly.
Nunew blinks a few times before he looks at him with a smile, but there's something wrong with that expression of his. His lips are pale, trembling, eyes starting to fill with tears.
Zee furrowed his eyebrows in concern, his hand reaching out to gently wipe the tear threatening to fall down his cheek. He knows the situation they're in isn't on his lover's side at all. Nunew, someone who doesn't like to watch horror movies, someone who hates running, is now stuck in this situation. Who would've thought this day would come?
He couldn't imagine how scared Nunew is at this very moment. “We're safe, sweetheart.. You know you're not alone, right? I'll be here with you, I'll continue to hold your hand in mine”
It doesn't seem to help, Nunew bursts into tears, streaming down his face across the wound he has on his cheek as if it's washing off the blood. It pains Zee to look at him like this, he hates it the most, seeing Nunew in pain. But all he could do is give him as much comfort as he can, just like they always do to each other.
“Are you okay, hmm? Come here”, Zee pulls Nunew into his arms, hugging him closely as Nunew rests his chin on Zee's shoulder. He could hear Nunew’s silent cry right against his ear. He closes his eyes, placing his palm on Nunew's back, softly caressing him in hope to calm him down even just a bit.
