We were driving smoothly by the cliff. It was pretty quiet until Ashlyn exclaimed "What the-!"

The car swerved and Tyler fell on my chest and I collided with Taylor. "Woah!"

"What was that for??" Tyler asked moodily as he sat upright, blushing madly.

"There was a giant tree root in the road-?" Ashlyn responded, looking carefully ahead.

Logan spoke up from the back, "That's strange... the road is usually well-maintained..."

We ran over a bump, causing us all to fall over slightly, grabbing onto something for support.

"Are you sure this is the right doubt?" Ashlyn questioned, some doubt creeping on her face.

"I'm positive... but there were never roots in the way." Logan pushed his glasses up worriedly as he looked out the window. "Ah! Yeah, there's the gas station we usually...pass?" He furrowed his brows and his voice became concerned.

We all glanced outside to where he was looking, and it was very creepy. The gas station was completely abandoned but not like in town. It was consumed it vines, a large tree where the cars usually get their fuel. Some of the building's windows were shattered as another large tree was splat in the middle of it.

"Um... I don't think that's good." I nervously pick my fingernails.

Ashlyn groaned. "This is getting uncomfortable... maybe we should find a different road—" Her voice immediately cancelled, and her hands squeezed the wheel.

"Ashlyn?" I ask, knitting my brows.

The car suddenly starts moving at a fast speed, causing us all to yelp slightly in shock.

"Hey-! What's withe the sudden speed?" Tyler yelled as he put his arm in front of my chest to prevent me from falling.

The car bounced aggressively, making everyone shift around in their seats. "-Ack!"

"Ashlyn, what are you doing?" Tyler's jaw muscle twitched. He clearly did not like how Ashlyn was acting weird.

"Ashlyn... what's up?" Aiden asked calmly, his voice not s bright anymore.

I moved forward to see Ashlyn's jaw was tight; her eyes had so much fear in them it was unsettling.

"Something... there was something in the trees..." She said shakily.

The car rattled, causing Taylor to look behind us. "What happened to the road?" Her hand flew to mine, squeezing it nervously.

"Ashlyn, we should turn back! Something obviously isn't right—" Tyler argued, but Ashlyn gritted her teeth.

"We can't."

"Why not?!" Tyler shot, his hand squeezing my knee now.

Ashlyns voice was very shaky and quiet, but just loud enough for us to hear. "Because- it's right behind us."

What is following us? I think, but my thoughts are interrupted by a very disturbing sound.

Thud

Thud

Thud

Thud

We all turn behind us to see where he sound was coming from, and I almost scream.

First off, the creature was hideous. It's face was upside down and like a phantom's, but it had a petrified face of shock. It's eyes were empty black and brought a sense of horror. It's body was like a centipede's, but it's legs were pointed and could probably rip your body in half.

I whimper nervously, my hand now squeezing Tyler's on my knee.

"There's no way any of our lights are strong enough to do damage to that thing..." Tyler scoffed, his eyebrows curled.

"S-should I try shooting it?!" Logan asks, lifting up his sniper.

"Not yet! We could end up attracting more!" Ashlyn yelled.

Suddenly our environment wasn't trees and roads. Now it was like an empty desert with large rock pillars. It was as if we teleported.

"Ashlyn, we need to turn around! We're going to end up lost and run into more of these!" Tyler suggested angrily.

"I know, I know!" Ashlyn moaned, obviously stressed.

"Ashlyn, try circling around a pillar! It may block the thing!" I think aloud.

She does so almost immediately, causing us all to collide into each other or the side of the car.

I notice a shadow overhead, "Tyler!" I yelp, pulling Tyler into my arms and away from the door.

SLAM!

We were all panting now in fear and anxiety.
Ben and Tyler had their arms around Taylor and I.

"Is everyone ok?!" Ashlyn yelled.

"Um- I think so. The door is just pretty messed up!" I report.

The car bumped and skidded. "These freaking roots and cars!" Ashlyn complained as she tried to get past the safely.

We flew around in the back, trying to get support as to not get hurt.

Everything seemed to slow down. My eyes widen as Tyler fell out of the car. I reach out my hands to catch him— but he was gone.

No!

Get him!

My chest tightens and my eyes water.

"TYLER!" Taylor and I yell together. In a moment I pushed myself out of the car towards Tyler.

I heard yelling from the car, but I couldn't just leave Tyler like that. They had each other, Tyler was alone.

I slam into the ground, immense pain going through my body as I fell off the cliff.

I could see Tyler falling not too far from me. His yells of pain filled my ears before he disappeared behind some trees.

Get him! Don't fail him!

I cry out as I slam into the ground. I try grabbing the grass to slow me down, but my head smashes into something hard. It felt like my head was splitting into two before all went black...
