"Ashlyn..." Tyler grumbled, grabbing my hand. I blushed. Wait, what?
"It's okay. It'll work, just keep running." Ashlyn panted, and she looked sure of it.
The others looked back nervously, praying that the plan will work out. Even Aiden looked nervous, but he kept his smile on as usual.
Some lights clicked on all of a sudden, right in front of the sprinting phantoms. They came to a halt, shielding their ugly faces from the blinding lights.
We all went to a different side of the Jeep, catching our breaths.
"It worked! We're not gonna die!" Taylor celebrated, tears of happiness flowing from her face.
"It's locked?!" Ashlyn gasped, her face very pale.
"I thought you said you made sure it was unlocked with the keys inside?!" Tyler squeezed my hand.
"I did! My parents must have grabbed it or something!" Ashlyn gritted her teeth, frustrated.
Ashlyn and Tyler bickered for a minute, going back and forth.
Ashlyn lifted up her walkie-talkie. "Logan, we can't find the keys! Stay there, we're gonna run in the house and get them!"
Logan's voice came out patchy, "I thought you put them in the Jeep??"
"I did! Just— stay there and keep watch!"
"Okay... be careful..."
Tyler kept a firm grip on my hand as we ran into the house. I was about to climb the stairs when I heard a "woah!"
I quickly stop, making Tyler halt.
"What-?" He asked, confused.
"Ashlyn and Aiden, they can't be seen. I'm gonna go see what's wrong."
His hand brushed my upper back and he said, "Be quick."
"Like glue!"
"Aiden— what are you doing on the ground?" I ask.
"The idiot broke his ankle!" Ashlyn covered her face with her hand. "You should've just—"
My heart dropped. "Ashlyn!" I scream, but it was too late.
A black, pointed hand grabbed Ashlyn's collar, lifting her up to the roof. Her head smashed against the ceiling, and I saw red.
"ASH!" Aiden yelled, but she was gone.
"Y/n, boost me up!" Aiden ordered, limping over to the railing.
"I- ok." I stammer through tears. "Ready?"
He grunts as I grab his feet, and I push him up with all of my strength.
"Be careful!" I warn.
"I'm durable!" He simply responds.
I quickly run inside, but am met with Tyler's chest.
"Y/n, what happened?" Tyler demands, but his face immediately softens when he sees my tear stained face.
"Um- it's Ashlyn! A phantom took her and- and Aiden went to get her. But, what if something happens? What if-" I begin to ramble, but Tyler gently grabs my chin to make me look at him.
"Hey, hey." He softly coos. "Logan's on watch. If they're in trouble, he'll help them. Remember, we're all a team, alright?"
I blink back tears and wrap my arms around him, burying my face into his chest. I hear Tyler sigh, his hands resting on my rib cage.
Suddenly I hear a bang- a gunshot.
"Was that-?"
"A gunshot." Tyler finishes for me. "Let's get upstairs."
On our way up, we hear multiple bangs, thumps, crashes and clacks.
"You hear the banging and thumping too, right?" Taylor asks in another room, probably to Ben.
"That's Aiden and Ashlyn, probably." Tyler steps into the room, making Ben and Taylor flinch in surprise.
Taylor and Ben share a confused look before Taylor goes over to the window and opens it. "Aiden, Ashlyn??" She calls. "Guys?? Woah!"
There's some silence for a minute and when I see Ashlyn it felt like the sky was lifted off my shoulders.
"Ashlyn!" I gasp. She looks at me tiredly before almost collapsing. "Woah!" I catch her, her body almost limp in my arms. "Definitely a concussion," I mumble, looking at the blood on her head.
"Guys, the phantoms are running in your direction! From what I can see, there's about twenty of them!" I hear Logan say through the walkie-talkie.
"Lovely. We need to leave, immediately!" Tyler grunts as he pulls Aiden in through the window.
"Aiden, are you alright?" I ask, who was already ready for a hug.
"Yup. Just my ankle." Aiden smiles into the hug, resting his chin on my head.
"Come on!" Tyler interrupts with Ashlyn on his back.
Ben goes on his knees for Aiden to hop on, which he does happily.
