FEBRUARY 3rd, 2001 - LONDON.

This past week in London, Brighton, and Portsmouth, the popular American band The Strokes sold out their first mini tour through the United Kingdom. Accompanied by other indie bands such as Peaches, Rocket from the Crypt , and you will know us by the trail of dead, crowds lined up to witness the travelling rock messiahs perform at the Astoria. The Strokes have been revolutionizing the music scene in New York City and are now taking on their neighbours across the pond. Popular music magazine, NME, has been writing about the band for over a year since they caught worldwide attention for the demo tape of their upcoming debut album. Just last year, the band signed with RCA records. They are expected to chart amongst other popular contenders of 2001 especially here in the UK. It has been said that the band is currently working with producer Gordon Raphael (Sarah Mcguire, Regina Spektor) on their soon to be released record titled "Is This It?".

The band has taken the brits by surprise, selling out venues at the Astoria, The Lift, and The Wedgewood rooms. Almost all attendees reported a series of high energy, electric performances were put on with the band's signature melodic rock sound bringing back the art of rock music. Their rise has been nothing short of meteoric and the hype has been almost unbelievable. But after nearly two years of speculation and anticipation it seems the band has delivered exactly what fans have been apprehensively awaiting.

Lead singer, Julian Casablancas, has garnered attention lately in the pop culture sphere as it is reported he is currently dating model, Stella Cobain, without any solid evidence just yet. Also known as daughter of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain. This has catapulted the enigmas into the spotlight with the pair being papped exiting Nobu New York just last week. Furthermore, the two have been spotted leaving multiple Brighton and London clubs and pubs in the past week since their arrival. The eldest daughter of the musical icons was also said to be seen meeting some fans outside of the Ritz where the band is rumored to be staying.

Despite just starting, it seems 2001 will be the year of The Strokes.
