A young man is waiting at a cardiology clinic to have a test done for his heart palpitations. Suddenly his heart begins beating faster, yet this time the air has been knocked out of his stomach.
She looks stunning in the white coat, even prettier than what he imagined. They share a shy smile, hardly able to make eye contact, and the room is filled with an eery silence.
She laughs, "I told you that you'll be here by 30 if you didn't take up better habits". He replied with "I guess I didn't have anyone to remind me otherwise". The room went back to silence.
He said, "you ended up making it", she replied with a smile and giggle that he longed for years. She asked if he's accomplished his goal, he reacted by handing her his business card. Her eyes beamed with pride, but it was quickly followed by silence.
The tests were done and he was good to go. They shared a final look as he left and closed the door behind him. He walked away with the brightest smile he's donned in years, while she cried away in her office.
He came back a week later for the results, flowers in hand. He was met by a different doctor, who came back with a clean report. Upon being asked, the doctor revealed that she left for Chicago to complete her residency shortly after seeing her last patient, exactly a week ago.
He gave his flowers to the front desk, hoping that they can make up for the beauty the clinic lost. Once again, he didn't come in time. His heart was fine, yet broken at the same time.
