three years had passed, and life felt like it had settled into this beautiful, steady rhythm for jake and heeseung. they'd both graduated, started working, and even moved into a cozy little apartment together. their friends visited often, filling the space with laughter and memories.

jake looked around their shared apartment, a smile tugging at his lips. the place was filled with small touches that told their story: photos from their college days, little knick-knacks from their travels, a bookshelf stacked with novels heeseung insisted they'd read together someday.

one saturday morning, heeseung was making breakfast in the kitchen, flipping pancakes with that easy, practiced motion that jake loved watching. jake walked over, wrapping his arms around heeseung's waist, leaning his head on his shoulder.

"morning, sleepyhead," heeseung said, his voice soft and warm.

"morning, hyung," jake replied, tightening his hug just a little. "what would i do without you?"

heeseung chuckled, turning his head to press a kiss to jake's forehead. "probably starve. or live off instant noodles."

"hey!" jake pouted, but heeseung only laughed, ruffling his hair.

they ate breakfast together, the easy banter flowing between them, and afterward, they decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. the streets were peaceful, and they walked hand-in-hand, talking about everything and nothing.

as they passed by a small park, heeseung tugged jake over to sit on a bench, pulling him close. jake rested his head on heeseung's shoulder, content and happy, just listening to the quiet sounds around them.

"remember when we used to do this back in college?" jake murmured. "sneak out late at night just to sit around and talk?"

heeseung smiled, nodding. "yeah.. those were the days. you'd complain about being tired the next day, but you never wanted to go home."

"because i didn't want to leave you," jake replied softly.

heeseung turned to look at him, his gaze warm and affectionate. "you know, i don't think i'll ever get used to having you around all the time. it's like.. i keep thinking it's a dream."

jake laughed. "if this is a dream, then don't wake me up."

heeseung tilted jake's chin up, meeting his gaze. his eyes were filled with that same warmth, that same love, but now, there was also a sense of permanence.

he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to jake's lips. jake closed his eyes, letting himself melt into the kiss, feeling that same familiar warmth spread through him.

when they pulled away, heeseung rested his forehead against jake's, smiling softly. "i love you, baby."

"i love you too, hyung," jake whispered, his voice barely a breath.

they stayed like that for a moment, wrapped up in each other, the rest of the world fading away.

after a while, jake leaned back against the bench, his gaze drifting again to heeseung, his arm draped casually around jake's shoulders. heeseung noticed him staring and gave him a questioning look.

"what's up?" heeseung asked, smiling.

"just.. thinking," jake replied, a small smile on his lips. "about how lucky i am."

heeseung squeezed his shoulder, pulling him closer. "we both are."

....

back at home, at night, jake flopped onto the bed, sighing contentedly. heeseung joined him, lying beside him, their hands finding each other's without even trying.

"you tired?" heeseung asked softly.

"a little," jake murmured, turning to face him. "but a good kind of tired."

heeseung smiled, reaching out to brush a strand of hair from jake's face. "good."

they lay there in comfortable silence, the night wrapping around them like a warm blanket. jake's eyelids grew heavy, and he felt himself slowly drifting off, heeseung's hand still holding his, grounding him.

as sleep claimed him, a soft, distant voice echoed in the back of his mind.. a familiar voice, calling his name.

....

when jake opened his eyes, he was back in his childhood bedroom, sunlight streaming through the curtains. he blinked, momentarily disoriented, the dream still lingering like a fading memory.

"jake, honey, wake up!" his mom's voice called from downstairs.

he sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes, trying to hold on to the warmth and love he'd felt. but as he looked around, the realization settled over him, bittersweet and gentle.

it had all been just a dream.
