♡JIMIN'S PERSPECTIVE♡
I sprawled out on my bed like a starfish, feeling utterly restless. "I'M SO BORED!" I shouted, my voice echoing through the room. If my parents were around, I'd definitely be in trouble.
"I KNOW!" I yelled again, grabbing my phone from the bedside table. "I'll create a group chat and add the first six suggestions on Snapchat. Who would even dare to turn down my friendship?"
I picked up my phone and opened Snapchat, easily locating it on my home screen in just a few seconds. "Let's check this out..." I narrowed my eyes at the first six suggestions before sending friend requests to each one. "Fingers crossed, they accept my request." I frowned, wondering what I would do if they didn't. What would fill my free time then?
Hello, I'm Park Jimin, a 21-year-old college student studying psychology. Originally from Busan, South Korea, I now live in Seoul with my parents and my younger brother, Park Jihyun, who is 19 and studying economics at the same university as me.
I adore my brother completely, but there are times when he turns into a total snitch, always running to tell on me. Even when I manage to persuade him to keep quiet around our parents, he still has the nerve to ask me for money, as if I have any to spare!
I'm a dance assistant at the university, but I only work after my classes on Wednesdays and Fridays. On Mondays and Thursdays, I have no classes, so I spend my time at a local bakery. My speciality is baking rice cakes, using a cherished recipe from my grandmother that she passed down to me when I was thirteen.
I ran my fingers through my hair and let out a deep sigh. At that moment, I found myself alone in my parents' house; my brother was out hanging with friends, and our parents were busy at work.
I propped myself up against the headboard of my bed, anxiously glancing at my phone to see if anyone had accepted my friend request. Each time I checked, my heart sank a little more as I saw no new notifications. Just when I was starting to feel down, my screen suddenly lit up.
I let out a little squeal and quickly grabbed my phone, only to feel let down when I saw it was just my brother, Jihyun, letting me know he was on his way home. I sighed in frustration but still took a moment to reply to him.
I set my phone down on the bedside table and shut my eyes, drifting off to sleep without even realising it.
About thirty minutes later, I was jolted awake by my brother shaking me. "LET GO OF ME!" I shouted, and he just chuckled. "Your snoring is getting pretty intense. You sounded like a bullfrog." He joked, prompting me to grab one of the plushies on my bed and toss it at him.
It hit him square in the face, so I leapt onto the bed, striking a pose like Sub-Zero after a win, and shouted, "JIMIN WINS FLAWLESS VICTORY!" My brother just rolled his eyes and threw the plush toy back at me before grabbing my ankles and yanking me down. "I COULD HAVE HIT MY HEAD, YOU BRAT!" Jihyun just shrugged. Ugh, he drives me crazy...
"How about we order some takeout since Mum and Dad will be away for a bit?" I nodded and got off the bed, watching Jihyun rush out of my room with excitement. I was ready to follow him, but then my phone lit up again.
I tried to contain my excitement as I walked over to my phone, but as soon as I saw the screen, I couldn't help but let out a squeal like a kid in a candy store.
I sent friend requests to six people, and three accepted! I decided to jump on Snapchat and message each of them individually with a simple "hi." I want to take my time and not risk jeopardizing my chances of developing a friendship with them.
I slipped my phone into my jeans pocket and dashed down the stairs. My brother was lounging on the couch in the living room, giving me a look that suggested I had lost my mind. "You're so strange." He remarked, but I brushed it off, too thrilled at the prospect of making new friends. "Whatever. Let's just order our food." I replied. Jihyun shared his order with me, and I placed mine right after.
"What should we do while we wait for our food?" I asked. Jihyun shrugged and pulled out his phone, diving into an RPG game he's been hooked on lately called Honkai: Star Rail. Honestly, I just don't get what all the fuss is about.
As I waited, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket, prompting me to pull it out with a squeal. My brother shot me a disapproving glance, but I brushed it off without a second thought.
Without missing a beat, I created a group chat and simply typed, "Hi." I have a strong sense that we're all going to hit it off really well; I can just feel it.
Operation make new friends is officially underway.
