It's 9 a.m., and I'm preparing to go to the bakery for my shift, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Instead of the usual 9 to 6, I discussed my schedule with the owner and manager, explaining my commitments as a university student.
They agreed to shorten my hours while ensuring I still earn the same pay as those working the longer shifts. I believe this arrangement is quite fair.
My brother had already left for his classes, which he attends on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. On the other days, except for the weekend, he works as a sales assistant at a corner shop located a twenty-minute walk from our parents' house.
Our parents have demanding jobs, leaving early in the morning and returning home late at night, which means my brother and I rarely get to see or talk to them. Our mother is employed at a bank, while our father works directly under the CEO of a tech firm.
I sat alone for breakfast, scrolling through my phone and sharing funny Instagram reels with my brother. He often doesn't get the humour in half the videos I send, but I enjoy sharing them regardless.
I noticed the group chat was lively with messages, and I couldn't help but smile as I opened it. Even though it's only Monday and we've only been chatting for four days since Friday, it feels like we've been friends forever.
