Zerphrion busied himself in the kitchen, arranging the dinner spread with care. He placed plates of steaming food on the table, the rich aroma filling the small room. Meanwhile, Finn was setting up his futon in the corner, making the most of the cramped space. Once he finished, he pulled up a chair and joined the group at the table.
"Lilith, come eat!" Zerphrion called, glancing back at her with a mix of concern and insistence.
Lilith frowned, her gaze still fixed on Lucifera, who lay peacefully on the bed, her breathing steady but shallow. "I don't want to leave her side," she replied, her voice soft but firm.
"You have to eat," Zerphrion insisted, his tone leaving no room for argument.
With a reluctant sigh, Lilith finally acquiesced, taking a seat at the table beside Finn and Zerphrion. The three of them settled into a companionable silence for a moment, the clinking of utensils the only sound.
Finn, curious about the situation, glanced at Lilith and asked, "Why is Lucifera having these episodes?"
Lilith hesitated, the weight of her words pressing heavily on her. She didn't want to divulge too much, knowing how sensitive the topic was. "I can't tell you why" she finally said, looking Finn in the eye. "I'm sorry, but it could put you in danger."
"Oh, that's fine," Finn replied quickly, not wanting to pry further. He sensed the tension in her words and respected her boundaries.
Lilith took a deep breath, her expression softening. "Let's just say there are scars on her back from her past, and it's getting worse." She felt a pang of sorrow for Lucifera, knowing the pain she carried was more than physical.
Finn nodded, understanding the unspoken heaviness in the room. "I'll do my best to help her," he said earnestly, his tone determined. "Whatever it takes."
Zerphrion reached for the food, serving everyone as he changed the subject. "We'll figure this out together. Right now, let's focus on getting some strength back."
As they began to eat, the atmosphere shifted slightly, filled with the warmth of camaraderie and shared purpose. But in the back of Lilith's mind, worry still lingered for Lucifera and the unknown struggles she faced.
As the night settled in, Finn lay on his futon, staring up at the ceiling. The soft rustle of bedding and the faint sounds of the night outside filled the room. He shifted slightly, the futon not quite as comfortable as he had hoped, but it was a cozy enough spot for now.
"Do you think there's a fix for Lucifera?" Finn asked quietly, breaking the silence that enveloped the small space.
Zerphrion, sprawled out on the couch nearby, turned his head slightly. "Maybe," he replied, his voice thoughtful. "But it will be hard to find."
Finn frowned, feeling a sense of urgency. "What if we do find it? Do you know what it is?."
"Just go to bed," Zerphrion said, a hint of exasperation creeping into his tone.
The room fell silent once more, the only sounds the distant chirping of crickets outside and the gentle breathing of the two men.
In the next room, Lilith lay in bed, her body tense with concern. She glanced over at Lucifera, who was still sleeping soundly, her face relaxed but marred by the shadows of her past. Lilith felt a knot of worry twist in her stomach, the weight of Lucifera's struggles pressing down on her heart.
"Please, wake up strong," Lilith whispered to the darkness, her voice barely audible. She closed her eyes, hoping that whatever pain Lucifera was facing would ease with the dawn.
