"What's a step up from what we did last time?" Naruto traced the rim of his cocktail glass slowly, hand supporting his chin. I fiddled with the side of the table cloth, biting my lip.

Tonight we're at a posh club, siting on a table close to the one Sasuke will be when his meeting adjourns. I pressed the home button on my phone and checked the time. Gears slowly turned in my head and I beckoned Naruto to lean forward.

"He will be out in five minutes, and from the East Door," I pointed at a set of double doors decorated with twisting, golden vines, "he will walk out and have a small break. Human basic instinct will be to look around before sitting down, and shiny things always catch the eye," I gestured at my glittery dress.

"He recognises this dress and will look in our direction. We then hold hands and..." I hesitated, a blush creeping into my cheeks.

"And what?" he asked softly.

"Kiss," I whispered, just as the East Door flew open.

True to my words, Sasuke walked out, looked around and settled on me, his hard gaze burning me, skinning me until nothing left but a guilty soul. But I turned around, grabbed Naruto's hand and smashed his lips to mine. He grunted in protest, but soon softened and cupped my face in response. Yet no matter how I try, I couldn't get the tingly feel that happens to me when Sasuke kisses me. This felt wrong.

I could feel someone stomping over to us on the carpet, and soon a familiar hand with long fingers and callused, landed on my shoulder. I pretended to jerk back, while Naruto stayed there, a dreamy look in his eyes.

And the Oscar for best male actor goes to...

"A-Ama?" Sasuke's voice trembled when he looked deep into my eyes. I have never heard him so lost before.

"I-I was r-right. I never thought..." he trailed off and grabbed my wrist, dragging me out.

"Listen, Sasuke, I know you're just confused and..."

"I'm not!" Sasuke yelled, his voice small and insignificant in the small park opposite the club. Tears streamed down his face, and the despairing look in his face made my knees go weak. I wanted to lunge forward, hold him tight and kiss the tears away.

But I can't.

"I'm telling you, I'm only-"

"Oh I know what you're doing, woman. You were kissing my best friend," he hissed, eyes crimson, "why him of all people? What is it that I can't give you?"

"I-"

"Shut up, bitch. I'm sick of your whiny voice," he grabbed my left hand and held up the finger that has the engagement ring on. The diamond caught the sunlight and flashed, blinding us for a moment and Sasuke hesitated.

"You don't deserve this anymore. If someone else had told me I wouldn't have believed it, but I saw it with my own eyes," he yanked it off, and I yelped.

"You and that bastard," he laughed at his own joke, as bastard was Naruto's nick name for himself, "can get married instead!"

He turned and left, walking away in a rigid way that signifies that something terrible and traumatising has happened to him. Just as his footsteps hit the pavement and faded away, I heard a small clink.

He has thrown the ring away.

I clutched my chest, screamed and wailed in total anguish. It was no doubt heard by him, my Sasuke.

But he did not turn around.
