prologueThe illumination of the moon shown down on the black haired girl as she crouched on top of the roof. The darkness of her skin tight bodysuit allowed her to blend into the night as she stalked her prey.
A man in a black suit inched his way down the alley, looking around as if he could feel her stare on him. As if he could feel the cold metal in her hands that was aimed to shoot him dead. There was no shaking of her hands as the rifle laid in them. There was no accelerating of her heartbeat as she waited for the right moment. There was nothing. She felt nothing, as always.
Her cat-like eyes watched intently as the man took each step noticing the way his demeanor got more and more anxious. Finally, the man walked up to another man dressed in dark colors, hiding his face. Both men exchanged bags before quickly starting to walk away.
As the man walked towards the end of the alley, back towards the street, Anastasia Smirnoff aimed her sniper rifle towards him. A breath filled her lungs as her finger found the trigger and her eye looked through the scope. With another breath she pulled the trigger, watching as the bullet flew through the air and hit the man in the head.
Her job was done. It was time to go back. Back to the Red Room.
Anastasia snuck her way down the stairs of the building, hiding in the shadows when someone approached. As she continued to walk down the stairs, a strange smell hit her. Her head became dizzy, her mouth dry, and her eyes blurry. Her knees buckled in on her as she collapsed down the few stairs that were left. She became paralyzed, unable to move her hands and legs, as she watched a man walk up to her. Just as she struggled to move her eyes slowly closed, slipping into a state of unconsciousness.
_______________Anastasia woke up to find herself strapped in a chair. Her legs and arms were constrained along with a gag in her mouth. The restraints were tied tight allowing for little to no movement.
Looking around, the assassin took in the sight of the room. Filthy, grey walls that were splattered with a dark unknown substance (most likely blood) surrounded her. The floors were dirty while water leaked from the ceiling above. There was nothing in the room except for the chair she was currently sitting in and a wall filled with hundreds of different objects. There were knives, rope, various weapons, and an unknown electrical machine. There were no windows, the only light source was from a small ceiling slight sitting above her. The only door sat in the corner of the room, toying with her mind as she waited hours for it to open.
Soon enough, a man in a lab coat walked into the room. He was a bald man of average height. Thin glasses sat on his face in front of the almost intimidating look that he held. Anastasia's heart started racing as multiple other people in lab coats walked in behind him. The weird thing was that Anastasia never got nervous like this. She never felt any emotion ever since she taken as a child by Dreykov.
"Hello, Miss Smirnoff," The man said, snapping her out of her thoughts. "My name is Doctor Gusev. I've been waiting to be able to see you for a long time."
Anastasia's eyes darted around the room, a natural instinct of hers to have eyes on everyone at all times. She watched as the assistants wheeled in a small side table and put the electrical machine she saw earlier on top.
"Now, you don't have to worry. We took care of everything. You're no longer being manipulated by the Red Room. We also took the liberty to remove your tracker. You're welcome." Dr. Gusev said with a crooked toothy smile.
Anastasia continued to watch as the assistants plugged in the machine and clicked buttons she couldn't see or read. Next thing she knew, the assistants were harshly grabbing her arms and strapping the machine on to her.
The girl could not move and allow herself to be free of their hold. She could not yell or argue for them to get off of her. All she could do was sit and watch. She could not do anything about the fact that a tear had started falling down her cheeks now. She could not do anything about the fact that this was the first time she had cried since she was seven years old.
So she sat and gazed at the people surrounding her. Anastasia watched their every move. She noticed every blink, every breath, every twitch, and every tap. She noticed everything.
"Here at our facility, we are currently running experiments on willing participants. But you, oh yes you, you're different." Dr. Gusev said to her as he took his filthy hand and turned her chin to face him. "You're special, Miss Smirnoff. You have a sense of power in you that is unlike anything I have ever seen. That's why you're here."
An assistant then walked over to the doctor and handed him a syringe full of a green liquid. Another one took a piece of wet cloth and cleaned a small area on Anastasia's arm.
Dr. Gusev spoke again, "You will be staying here until we see that you're fit to go out and help us. Every day we will perform a serious of tests and experiments. These experiments will make you so much more than you know. I'm very excited to start. Now, I'm going to put you to sleep."
Anastasia shook her head violently at those words. Tears were flowing down her face now as panic set in. She watched as the doctor got closer to her taking the syringe and putting the needle in the part of the skin that was just cleaned.
Right before he pushed down on the syringe he muttered two words. And as the liquid swept into her skin and flowed into her bloodstream causing unconsciousness to take over her, she heard the assistants simultaneously repeat the same two words:
"Hail Hydra."
