As they emerged from the forest's dense foliage, the sound of gently lapping water grew louder. The moonlight danced across the rippling surface, illuminating the serene riverside.
Samriddhi's eyes narrowed, her hand instinctively resting on the hilt of her sword. Lily mirrored her stance, scanning their surroundings.
Ahvi circled above, its piercing gaze sweeping the area before settling onto a towering tree. The bird's majestic form silhouetted against the moonlit sky.
The riverside was deserted, the only sounds the gentle lapping of the water and the occasional hooting of an owl. Yet, Samriddhi's instincts remained on high alert.
Lily moved closer, her voice barely audible. "Your majesty, what do you think Ahvi's trying to show us?"
Samriddhi's gaze never wavered from the surroundings. "Not sure, but we need to be cautious."
The tree-lined riverbank stretched out in both directions, casting long shadows. The water's edge lapped softly against the shore.
To their left, a small wooden boat bobbed gently, tied to a weathered dock. Beyond the boat, the river vanished into the darkness.
To their right, the forest continued, dense and foreboding.
Ahvi watched from its perch, its emerald eyes glinting in the moonlight.
Samriddhi's eyes locked onto the boat. "Lily, check the boat."
Lily nodded, her dagger at the ready.
As Lily approached the boat, Samriddhi scanned the surrounding trees, searching for any sign of movement.
The silence was oppressive, heavy with anticipation.
Lily returned, her expression guarded. "The boat's empty, but there's a small pouch tied to the dock."
Samriddhi's eyes snapped to the pouch. "Bring it."
Lily retrieved the pouch, handing it to Samriddhi.
The pouch was made of supple leather, adorned with intricate embroidery – the symbol of the Eastern Nobles.
Samriddhi's heart quickened as she opened the pouch, revealing a rolled parchment inside.
The parchment bore a message, penned in the Nobles' secret code:
" Welcome princess! I was waiting for you."
Samriddhi's gaze lingered on the parchment, her mind racing. Who could have written this? Why summon her to this isolated riverside?
Lily's voice barely broke the silence. "Your majesty, what does it say?"
Samriddhi's eyes refocused. "It's a message...from an unknown person"
Lily's brow furrowed. "What does it mean?"
Samriddhi's thoughts swirled. Who created that sound? Who knew their secret code? Why was she called here?
Her mind racing, she glanced at Lily, then back at the river.
Suddenly, a faint rustling echoed through the air.
Samriddhi spun around, her hand instinctively resting on her sword.
But there was no one.
The rustling ceased, leaving an unsettling silence.
Lily's eyes locked onto Samriddhi's. "Your majesty?"
Samriddhi's voice was low. "I don't know."
The stillness was oppressive, heavy with anticipation.
The silence deepened.
Then, a soft, melodious voice replied, "I knew I could summon you like this. I knew you would come."
The voice was unmistakably feminine.
Samriddhi's heart quickened.
The voice seemed to come from all around them, yet nowhere at all.
Lily drew closer, hand on her dagger.
"Show yourself," Samriddhi commanded.
As Samriddhi and Lily stood frozen, a figure emerged from the shadows.
She stepped off a branch, her feet landing silently on the forest floor.
The woman's presence was imposing:
A flowing black cloak billowed around her, embroidered with intricate patterns that shimmered in the moonlight.
A sword hung at her waist, its hilt bearing the symbol of the East Kingdom's Nobles.
Her face remained hidden, concealed by the shadows of her raised hood.
"Who are you?" Samriddhi demanded.
The woman's stance seemed to relax, her shoulders easing.
A subtle, enigmatic smile played on her lips, though her face remained obscured.
Slowly, she reached up, her slender fingers grasping the edge of her hood. With a fluid motion, she pulled it back, revealing.
..............
Samriddhi's eyes widened, her mind racing.
