Chapter 18
"Shadows in the night"

Alara stumbled out of the loud, chaotic party, the flashing lights and bass-heavy music fading as she made her way to the parking lot.
Her vision blurred, and she laughed to herself, half from the night's drama and half from the alcohol pulsing through her veins.
She clutched her purse and keys, finally spotting her sleek car parked nearby.
With a sigh, she leaned against the car, fumbling to unlock it. "Alright, Alara, let's get you out of this nightmare and back home," she murmured, slurring a bit as she finally managed to get in.
But as she plopped down in the driver's seat, she felt the room start to spin.
"Ugh... okay, maybe driving wasn't the best idea," she groaned, shaking her head and tapping her hands on the wheel. "You can do this. It's just a short drive."
But even as she tried to start the car, her fingers felt heavy, and the thought of focusing on the road seemed near impossible.
"Great. Just great," she muttered, slumping back and closing her eyes briefly.
"Need a hand?" a voice suddenly broke the silence, deep and smooth.
She jolted up, looking over to see a tall, imposing figure standing outside her car. Dressed in tactical black, with a skull patterned mask covering his face, he looked like something out of a dark, thrilling story.
His broad shoulders and muscular frame made it clear he wasn't just some random passerby. He seemed dangerous, mysterious and oddly, a little too perfect.
Through her drunken haze, Alara managed to lift an eyebrow. "Another knight in... skull mask?" she slurred, her words tumbling out with a hint of sass.
"And here I thought the night couldn't get more interesting."
The stranger chuckled, leaning down to meet her gaze through the open car window.
His eyes, sharp and dark, studied her with a hint of amusement. "You seem like you're in no condition to drive, princess."
"I don't need saving," she huffed, gripping her keys tighter, as if she could somehow will herself into sobriety.
"I just... need a second. I'll be fine." She gestured vaguely towards the road. "I can drive."
"Sure you can," he replied smoothly, a hint of sarcasm in his tone. He extended his hand, calm and steady. "But maybe let me handle the driving tonight. You'll thank me in the morning."
