Song for this chapter: Blood and Bones - James McVey
The morning light crept slowly over the snow-covered Finnish landscape, casting a gentle glow through the frosted windows of the secluded villa where Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel would soon say their vows. The air was still, save for the distant calls of morning birds and the soft crunch of Kimi's footsteps as he stepped onto the balcony, the chill biting into his skin. He breathed deeply, the cold air waking him up, filling him with a sense of clarity and peace.
Kimi took in the scene below—the delicate snow that had fallen overnight, blanketing everything in a pristine silence. This was where he felt most at home. And today, he'd promise to spend the rest of his life with the man who'd become his steady, unyielding light through every storm and every sunrise.
A small voice interrupted his quiet thoughts. "Isä?"
Kimi turned, smiling as he saw his son, Benji, standing in the doorway, rubbing his eyes with a chubby fist. Benji was only three but already a bundle of energy and curiosity, a little miracle in their lives since they'd adopted him at six months old. This morning, though, he looked sleepy and small, his dark hair mussed, as he held out his arms for Kimi to lift him up.
"Come here, Benji," Kimi said softly, scooping his son into his arms. Benji snuggled against Kimi's chest, his tiny fingers clutching the collar of his father's shirt.
"Onko se tänään?" Benji asked in a small, sleepy voice, looking up with wide eyes. (Is it today?)
Kimi nodded, his voice soft. "Kyllä, se on tänään." (Yes, it is today.)
Benji's eyes sparkled, and he giggled. "I'm going to carry rings!"
"That's right, little man," Kimi said, pressing a kiss to his son's head. "Papa and I are so proud of you."
--In another room, Sebastian was already dressed in his suit, adjusting his cufflinks while his best man, Mark Webber, fussed over the details. Mark had flown in from Australia, and now he was in full "older brother" mode, cracking jokes one minute and straightening Sebastian's collar the next.
Sebastian's hands were steady, though his mind felt anything but. Today was the day he'd dreamed of for years, and as he took one last look in the mirror, his heart raced with both excitement and nerves.
Mark noticed Sebastian's faraway expression and chuckled. "Nervous?"
Sebastian shook his head, though he was a little. "Not nervous about marrying him," he admitted with a smile. "Just about making today perfect."
Mark laughed. "Kimi's not one for ceremony. Just being here will be perfect enough for him."
Sebastian grinned, knowing Mark was right. His fiancé wasn't a man of grand gestures or lengthy speeches. But he was solid, unwavering, and fiercely loyal. Kimi had always been there, his constant and his calm, through the highest highs and the lowest lows. As he looked in the mirror, Sebastian smiled to himself, excited to finally marry the love of his life.
--
The guests settled in as soft music began to play, signalling the start of the ceremony. All eyes turned to the aisle as Benji appeared, clutching a small pillow with two simple rings resting on top. His tiny face was serious with concentration as he took each step, glancing up every so often to find his parents at the end of the aisle.
The sight of Benji brought a wave of warmth through the crowd, and several of their closest friends exchanged smiles, knowing how deeply Kimi and Sebastian treasured their son.
"Papa! Isä!" Benji called out as he finally reached the end, his proud smile lighting up his face. He held up the pillow with a flourish, and both Kimi and Sebastian knelt to his height, each of them placing a gentle kiss on his cheek.
