Despite Gavin commenting that he wanted to hang out with Quinn sometime, Quinn found herself just hanging out with Nita for the next two weeks since meeting him. She saw the blond haired boy in the hallways at school, surrounded by his team mates and some of his friends. As much as she wanted to walk up to him and start a random conversation with him, Quinn knew that they were polar opposites and that she wouldn't pull him away from his friends just to hang out with one of the quiet artists in school, one that spent more time in the art room than any other place in school. One that would skip lunch sometimes and find herself in the art room, starting another project for her teacher despite Miss Rodgers insisting that she just needed one project from her.
On her eighteenth birthday, which happened to fall on a Wednesday this year, Quinn woke to the smell of pancakes in the air. Getting out of her cherry blossom printed bedspread that covered her bed, Quinn made her way across the fuchsia colored walled room to her bedroom door. Opening it, she stood there for a second before she allowed the scents to waffle in her nose again.
Heading down the hallway, Quinn sat down at the kitchen table and allowed herself to be absorbed by the company of her mom and the sight of candles sitting on the counter in the background, ready to be lit when it was time to make a wish.
And for a moment, it was like any other birthday she celebrated with her mom. If only though, it could last longer than it did.

With the sun still beating down warm rays down onto the school grounds, Quinn shoved her hands into her light weight quarter length gray jacket before turning her head. Teenagers moved behind her, on their way to the cafeteria. And although her classmates had already told her happy birthday, and she had gotten a new necklace from Nita for her birthday, along with a laptop case from her mom...Quinn wanted nothing more than one thing for her birthday. And that was to have the attention of Gavin. But just the thought of him actually glancing in her direction and saying happy birthday was enough for her to feel as though she had gone into cardiac arrest and was dreaming.
As she opened the gym door (a short cut to get to the cafeteria across from the gym), Quinn didn't have time to enter it before she was welcomed with other teenagers moving past her in blurs and thinking that she was just holding the door open for them to walk in. And so, she bit her tongue, before waiting for the last of the cluster of bodies to enter the gym before entering behind them and letting the door shut behind her.
Walking slowly, Quinn let her eyes trail over the gym and to the swimming pool that was off to the left. The waters moved gently, letting the lights above them shimmer down upon the surface. She softly smiled before she made her way over towards the swimming pool, wishing that for a moment she could swim through the waters and not have a care in the world. Yet, she frowned when a wave of dizziness washed throughout her being with each second that she stared at the reflection of herself in the water.
For a second, Quinn swore that she had seen the reflection of herself reach its hand up and beckon her with its left pointer finger, as though to lure her into the waters. But as soon as that appeared, it disappeared as though she had imagined the whole thing. She shook her head, thinking that she hadn't gotten enough sleep the night before (which honestly was true), before she started walking forward again.
Only, instead of paying attention to in front of her, Quinn didn't see the wet floor sign that was sitting next to the side of the pool. As she made her way through the puddle, she found herself slipping and in seconds a splash resonated throughout the gym as she fell backwards into the pool.
