Thump. Thump. Thump.
Taking a large breath of air, Quinn stood in the hallway after school the next day. Dressed in quarter length dark blue sweater and light washed jeans, the blue haired girl bit her lip as her boots clicked against the flooring of the hallway once more. She was completely alone, even though it was Thursday—which meant that she was one day away from it being the weekend. She was one day away from being in her pajamas, and sitting in the living room with her mom while making some jewelry. The radio would be playing in the background, on the classic rock station, and she and her mom would be singing along with the older artists that got even better with each time they were heard.
"You can do this, Quinn," Quinn muttered to herself as she looked through the glass slit in the gym doors, noticing that the swim team were sitting on the bleachers in their clothes now and they were probably talking about different things before practice would officially begin. She hoped that Gavin would talk about her, but another part of her was terrified at the aspect of Gavin talking about her—and not putting a flattering spotlight on her.
"It's just Gavin Elwood...the hottest boy in school," Quinn reminded herself, "and you've already made a fool out of yourself each time that you've been in his presence and he doesn't act like he doesn't know you...so there's nothing worse you can do."
Closing her eyes, Quinn silently prayed to God that she wouldn't make a fool out of herself for once, and that she would just hand him his clothes and then turn around and be on her merry way. The weekend was almost here and she didn't want to spend a Thursday in the school building longer than she needed to.
Opening one of the gym doors, Quinn walked into the gym and let the door shut behind her in a loud thud, which resulted in the boys snapping their heads up and glancing over in her direction. She smiled softly at them, as her anxiety began to hitch itself farther into her being, before she began making her way over towards the bleachers with Gavin's clothes in her arms—making it look like the clothes were a life saver.
Reaching the guys, Quinn barely had time to open her mouth before she saw Mitch getting up from his spot on the bleachers and running down the stairs towards her. She stared at him as though he had grown another head before he slung his arms around her shoulder blades, which in return sent her blushing wildly at the act.
"What's going on, blue?" Mitch asked her as he stared down at her, the gentleness in his eyes reassuring her that he was just being conversational, but still she reached one of her arms off and peeled his arms off of her shoulder blades—and as she did the motion she could hear the sound of the other teammates chuckling in the background.
"I'm returning Gavin his clothes...he let me borrow them since I didn't have anything to change into after I fell into the pool yesterday," Quinn informed him and Mitch nodded his head as he studied the girl in front of him before he turned his attention back to the remaining teammates that were sitting on the bleachers.
"Dudes, this is blue. She's the girl that Gavin hasn't shut up about," Mitch spoke and Quinn ducked her head downwards as she felt the blushes scatter even more across her features at hearing him say this. She knew though that even if Gavin talked about her a lot—that didn't mean that it was said in a good way.
"Gavin won't shut up talking about me?" Quinn whispered, in fear that he would say that he was kidding, but the look on Mitch's face allowed her to know that he wasn't joking around—and that he was being serious.
"Yeah. I don't know what it was...but after yesterday, when you were pulled out of the swimming pool and he came to class he just wouldn't stop talking about you. I mean, don't get me wrong, he was talking about you before you fell into the pool but he was on overdrive yesterday...talking about how pretty and nice you are and how blue is such a good color on you," Mitch told her, and for a moment it seemed as though he didn't know he was rambling until he heard the sound of a door thundering in a loud bang.
