ᴺᴼᵂ ᴾᴸᴬᵞᴵᴺᴳ : Shut up and Drive
"Baby, you got the keys
now shut up and drive."
2004 — BRAZIL
"Eilana, we don't use that sign!"
"But you sign it to mama!"
"That's because...it's adult language, Lana," said Miguel, crouching in front of her..
Eilana Santos did not understand why she couldn't use the sign that meant 'shit'. She was positive it had mean 'you're wrong' but clearly, it did not. Colette had never taught her what it meant but used it when arguing with Miguel.
"I won't do it again, Pai." Eilana pouted.
"Good," Miguel kissed her head. "I love you, Lana."
"Love you too, Pai!"

"This means Fuck off—"
"Really? I do not believe you!"
"No, no, it does! I promise!"
Eilana Santos had concluded that Carlos Sainz held her heart hostage on a daily basis — today, it was like he had it so close to his that Eilana didn't feel anything else but love and affection for him, more than she had for anyone else.
Well, perhaps Anthoine came close but their relationship was the perfect friendship, not romance. Carlos held the romantic one.
Carlos Sainz learning sign language for his girlfriend wasn't even a question; there was no hesitation about it. Eilana thought it was the most wholesome thing in the world and she was happy to teach it to him. Whenever she spoke, she also signed — it was how her mother and father taught her growing up.
Carlos knew Eilana could still hear out of one ear but he'd learnt more and more about how it affected only having one working ear, from the lack of sound filtering she could do to the way she got overstimulated in noisy places. He didn't want her to feel overwhelmed trying to speak to him too.
"Okay, it doesn't actually mean fuck off," Eilana admitted as she showed him the sign. "It means 'Go away' but I mean, that's basically the same thing!"
